Executive Update

Uncertain Times
We are definitely in a time of uncertainty right
now that I can honestly say I never could have
imagined. I don't think any of us could have ever
predicted our lives being upended so drastically.
We have certainly been through rough patches
before, but the COVID-19 crisis is unique. We are
all waiting for business as usual to return. We sit
wondering if this is a paradigm shift for the world
and if a new "normal" will emerge.
I am personally using this time as a bit of a disconnect, to unwind and reset. It is nice to not have to
run around nonstop from practice to practice and
game to game. I will use this time to reconnect with
my family, and myself! I will look for ways that I can
be of assistance to those in need during this time of
turmoil. And, of course, I will be here for all of you.
I know that no matter what, we are in this together (even if from a distance). We will prevail
as individuals and as a society, and the PCSO
will continue to serve each and every one of our
members. Please know that the PCSO is here to
support you in any way that we can. Do not hesitate to reach out.
Board Updates
The board met on March 7, 2020, for its ad
interim meeting. Here are several of the items
achieved at that meeting.

Council on New & Younger Members (CONYM). Dr. Mary Hoffman, Idaho, was selected
to take over the position after the term of the
current CONYM rep, Dr. Trista Felty, concludes
in May.
The current task force on component resources was approved as an ad hoc committee
and is being titled the Component Relations
Committee.
Inaugural members of the Continuing Education Committee were approved and include
Mary Cooke, Andrew Harner, Bryan Hicks, Kurt
Stormberg, and Amelia Stoker. Existing 2021

Annual Session Planning Committee members who will also serve include Kelly Giannetti, Anil Idiculla, and Daniella Phillis.
A new Critical Issues Task Force was created to
address Resident Issues as denoted as needs
in the PCSO strategic plan.
It was decided that the next spring continuing
education meeting of the PCSO will be moved
to 2022 instead of 2021 because of the timing
and location of the AAO's winter conference.
Policy changes were approved that include,
but are not limited to, an extensive legal
review of the antitrust, whistleblower, and
antifraternization policies.
Several other task forces and committees
have been hard at work looking at nondues
revenue opportunities, an advertising analysis
for the Bulletin, membership recruitment and
communication, social media, and financial
sustainability of the PCSO.

Annual Session
We are actively preparing for the 2020 Annual
Session at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim,
California, this October 22-25, the first annual
Western Orthodontic Conference held jointly
with the Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontists. The schedule allows for time to visit the
adjoining theme parks, and discounted tickets
will be available to conference attendees. Registration will open this spring. Be on the lookout
for the preview program as well as the registration email. Plans are also already underway for
the 2021 conference to be held October 21-24 in
Portland, Oregon.
