So why not take the same action with your home? Insulation can help to save you hundreds of pounds a year on the wasted energy that seeps out of the walls and roof, and gaps around windows and doors. Giving your home an extra layer will keep the heat inside where it's needed, meaning you can have the heating on less, cutting down on fuel consumption and carbon emissions. W INSULATE YOUR LOFT The Energy Saving Trust (EST) reports that installing the recommended 270mm of insulation can save the average detached home £240 a year on heating bills. It's pretty easy to do yourself, as long as there's easy access.
