Three football pitches'
worth. That's how many
clothes were donated to the
families affected by the
Grenfell Tower fire from
you, the British public. So
overwhelmed - in the best
way possible - was the British
Red Cross by the donations,
that excess clothes (around
40,000 boxes) will be sold,
thereby raising extra funds.
'We have seen an incredible
outpouring of donations for
the people affected by the
fire,' says Red Cross chief
executive Mike Adamson.
The charity added in a
statement: 'The best new
clothes will be made available
to people affected by the
fire. The remaining items will
have "Shop for Grenfell"
labels attached and be sold in
Red Cross shops across the
UK.' The Red Cross also
launched the London Fire
Relief Fund and has already
raised more than £3.2 million.

Mohammed Mahmoud, the
imam who protected the
assailant in the aftermath
of the June attack on the
mosque in Finsbury Park,
has been showered with
praise, and rightly so.
Mohammed also received
a special commendation
from a disabled woman who
travelled 10 miles from Ilford
to see him on a mobility
scooter to personally
apologise, telling the imam
that the attacker did not
represent Christianity. 'You
don't have to apologise,'
Mohammed told her.
'This criminal doesn't
represent you and he
doesn't represent Britain.'

As anyone who's read the
His Dark Materials trilogy
will attest, Philip Pullman
has produced some of the
most magical literature of
recent years.
It seems the great
man has a suitably beautiful
heart with the news that
Nur Huda el-Wahabi, a
teenager who is believed to
have died in the Grenfell
fire, will be remembered
in his upcoming The Book
of Dust trilogy.
Philip is naming a
character in memory of
the teen, after money was
raised via the Authors for
Grenfell Tower auction.
The author's gesture raised
£32,400, while the auction
raised £150,000 overall.
