to the MBA branches far from the Board and Officers deep
into our committees and sections. These respected and
knowledgeable lawyers manage numerous events, committee/
section luncheons, CLEs, speakers, volunteer opportunities,
award ceremonies, and recruitment, advance the MBA's mission,
and provide member services and innovative programming. The
daily pulse of the MBA rests here. Thank you for your tireless
efforts and enthusiasm this past year.
LEADERSHIP. I am glad to report that the MBA's diversity
programming and progress has been examined, and our great
start and momentum will continue. Our Leadership Academy
performed a detailed examination, and made significant
recommendations to our diversity efforts. All of the changes you
will see are aimed at growing diversity within the MBA - in the
broadest, most diverse, sense of the word - in an active way while
gauging real results. You will see diversity continue to advance
within the MBA, in a meaningful, structured way, as it becomes
firmly part of our fabric.

Congratulations to our new officers, as I take on the hallowed
role of Past President. Incoming President Mary C. Pugh's
experience, compassion, volunteerism and advocacy for children
epitomize the very best that we as attorneys can be. Selflessly
giving your time and advice to a client for an hourly rate is one
matter, but dedicating your life to serve those who have no voice,
who literally stand at the edge of a crack in a family, or of society,
those who are helpless, is entirely another, and far more noble,
matter. I wish Mary a successful year, and I know she will bring
her spirit of giving to the MBA in 2018.
STAFF. Finally, thank you to our staff, and our Executive
Director, Nancy Paul. Our Association is professionally run and
managed, which affords thoughtful detail to events, long-term
vision, goals and planning, and educated day-to-day decisionmaking. All of this makes for an immensely better member
experience from which all of us benefit.
Serving as Bar President has been an incredibly rewarding
experience, and I thank each of you for your support and
engagement during this past year.
