equivalent to the Eagle Ford both in age
and in lithology."
In fact, several companies-including
Indigo II and Justice Oil-have dubbed
the play in West and Central Louisiana
the "Louisiana Eagle Ford," he says.
Indigo II opened the Burnstown Field
in northeast Vernon Parish with the Bentley
Lumber No. 1 well. It was a vertical
pilot that tested 40-degree API gravity
oil with five barrels of crude, 8 Mcf of
casinghead gas and 46 barrels of water,
according to Trammel. He says the pilot
well was perforated from 11,562 feet to
11,704 feet with a total depth at 12,020
feet. In the first three months, the vertical
test produced 317 barrels of crude oil
and 769 Mcf of casinghead gas.
Indigo II Louisiana Operating then
drilled a horizontal well, the Bentley
Lumber 34H No. 1, in Rapides Parish,
La. Trammel says Indigo II announced
the results of that well on Dec. 9, noting
that the well flowed 543 barrels oil equivalent (80 percent oil) during a 24-hour
test period.
"This first Louisiana Eagle Ford horizontal well in the region was successfully
drilled without the need for an intermediate
casing string through the shale interval,
and involved a 15-stage fracture stimulation of the target interval," according to
an Indigo II press release. "The hydrocarbon mix is light, sweet 45-degree API
gravity oil along with high-liquids yield,
high-Btu natural gas."
Indigo II has identified several locations
to drill additional horizontal wells in
2012. Prior to doing so, it intends to
secure a joint venture operating partner
sometime in early 2012 to bring horizontal
oil expertise and capital to this large oil
shale development project, the company
reports. "Indigo will be following closely
new developments by Encana, Devon
and others to the east of its acreage position. Both operators have successfully
drilled and completed horizontal wells
in the same formation and have announced
additional new drilling permits," the company release states. "It is anticipated that
five to seven rigs could be operating in
this emerging oil play during the first
quarter of 2012."
Trammel reports that Devon has proposed a new well location in East Feliciana
Parish. "There are 2.7 million acres in
Southwest Mississippi and Central
