Natural gas liquids production,
likewise was up from the prior month,
prior year, and year to date. API says
April's NGL production was 2.7
MMbbl/d, up 1.2 percent from March and
9.2 percent from April 2013. Year to date,
NGL production rose by 9.5 percent.
According to Baker‐Hughes Inc.,
April's active rig count was 1,835, up
32 from March and up 80 from April
2013, API points out. This was the
highest monthly count since September
2012, the institute notes.
API reports U.S. total petroleum
imports in April averaged 10.1
MMbbl/d, which was the second lowest
for the month in 17 years. However,
total petroleum imports were up 6.8
percent from March and were 0.6
percent higher than April 2013. Year to
date, API says, total petroleum imports
were down 2.0 percent at 9.5 MMbbl/d.
Crude oil imports, meanwhile,
reached 8.0 MMbbl/d for the first time
in eight months, API continues, and
were up 4.6 percent from March and 3.7

percent from April 2013. Year to date,
crude imports were up 0.2 percent from
2013, API says.
Imports of refined products in April
rose by 16.3 percent from March, but
were down by 9.4 percent from April
2013 at 2.1 MMbbl/d. That was the
second lowest level for the month in 16
years, API says. Year to date, refined
product imports were down by 9.8
percent, compared with 2013.
API says crude oil stocks ended
April at 390.0 million barrels-the
second highest April inventory in 31
years. Crude stocks were up 3.3 percent
from March, but were down by 1.5
percent from April 2013.
API reports production of gasoline
was up in April from March, from April
2013, and the prior year to date to reach
a record high. At 9.8 MMbbl/d, gasoline
production was up 4.9 percent from
March and 9.2 percent from April
2013's output. API says this was the
highest gasoline production on record.
Year to date, the institute says,
gasoline production increased by 5.9

percent.
At 16.1 MMbbl/d, API says, U.S.
gross refinery inputs in April were the
highest ever recorded for the month.
Gross refinery inputs were up from
March 2014 and April 2013 by 3.6 and
5.1 percent, respectively. Year to date,
API goes on, refinery gross inputs
increased by 5.0 percent.
Exports of refined petroleum
products, meanwhile, were down by 6.7
percent from March, but were up by 16.0
percent from April 2013 at an average
3.7 MMbbl/d, API reports. This was the
highest export level for the month on
record and was within 723,000 bbl/d of
the overall record high of 4.4 MMbbl/d
set in December 2013. Year to date, API
adds, refined product exports were up
23.7 percent at 3.8 MMbbl/d.
Refinery utilization averaged 89.7
percent in April, up 2.6 percentage
points from March and 3.9 percentage
points from April 2013. API reports
operable refinery capacity stood at
17.922 MMbbl/d in April, up 0.6
percent from April 2013. ❒
