Gas Storage Levels
Increase By 476 Bcf

WASHINGTON-Underground
natural gas storage in the United States
stood at 2.577 trillion cubic feet on June
26, 1.1 percent above the five-year
average, according to the U.S. Energy
Information Administration. That was
up 476 billion cubic feet from the 2.101
Tcf reported by EIA on May 22, which
was 0.8 percent below the five-year
average. The June 26 storage number
was 662 Bcf more than a year ago,
when storage stood at 1.915 Tcf.
EIA reports gas storage in the
producing region stood at 1.027 Tcf on
June 26, 9.6 percent above the five-year
average and 127 Bcf more than the 900
Bcf reported in storage on May 22,
which was 6.8 percent above the fiveyear average. The June 26 storage
number for the producing region was up
355 Bcf from a year ago.
In the eastern region, EIA reports,
gas storage on June 26 was 1.109 Tcf,
8.1 percent below the five-year average,
but up 303 Bcf from the 806 Bcf
reported in storage on May 22, which
was 14.3 percent below the five-year
average. The June 26 storage number
for the eastern region was up 195 Bcf,
compared with a year earlier.
In the western region, EIA reports,
storage levels on June 26 were 441 Bcf,
8.9 percent above the five-year average
and up 46 Bcf from the 395 Bcf
reported on May 22, which was 17.9
percent above the five-year average.
The June 26 storage number in the
western region was up 112 Bcf from a
year ago. r

U.S. Crude Production
Stays Above 9 MMbbl/d

WASHINGTON-For the eighth
month in a row, domestic crude oil
production rose above 9.0 million barrels
a day, the American Petroleum Institute
says. In its June monthly statistical report,
API says at nearly 9.6 MMbbl/d, U.S.
crude production in May increased 10.7
percent from May 2014, but increased
only by 0.3 percent over April 2015.
The May figure was the highest
crude production level for any month
for the 43 years since May 1972, API
says. May natural gas liquids
production averaged nearly 3.2
MMbbl/d, the highest for the month on
record and just 1,000 bbl/d below the
all-time production level set in October.
According to Baker-Hughes Inc., the
average number of oil and gas rigs
operating in the United States in May
was 889, a drop of 8.9 percent from the
previous month and 52.2 percent below
the year-ago level. The report points out
the May count was the lowest since
January 2003.
Total U.S. petroleum imports in
May averaged nearly 9.1 MMbbl/d,
down 6.1 percent from the prior month
and 3.1 percent less than the prior
year. Total petroleum imports in the
month were the lowest in 20 years.
With strong domestic production,
crude oil imports fell below 7.0
MMbbl/d for the first time since
February 1996, API says, the lowest
May imports since 1993.
Imports of refined products in May
increased 10.9 percent from April, but
were down 5.5 percent from May 2014,
to nearly 2.1 MMbbl/d, API says. That
was the lowest import level for the
month since 1996. For year to date,
refined product imports were up 4.8
percent compared with 2014 levels.
API says refinery gross inputs in
May increased 1.7 percent from last
year, and set record highs for the
month at 16.5 MMbbl/d. Compared
with April, U.S. gross refinery inputs
rose 0.7 percent. For year to date, the
report says refinery gross inputs were
up 1.5 percent compared with year to
date 2014.
Exports of refined petroleum
products were down from the prior
month, but were up from the prior year
and prior year-to-date, the report
indicates. Exports of refined petroleum
products in May decreased 4.7 percent
from April, but were up 5.3 percent
from May 2014 to average 4.3
MMbbl/d, which is the highest May
