ning four rigs in its core holdings. The
company is focusing on its best drilling
prospects, spending $565 million in 2015
to complete 79 gross wells, Robuck details.
The company performed its first multi-slickwater frac in the White Unit in Wild
Basin during the first quarter, he relates.
The test included seven wells in a portion
of a single spacing unit, he says.
The Middle Bakken has produced
256,000 boe through 216 days and the
wells in the first bench of the Three
Forks have averaged 167,000 boe through
192 days, Robuck says.
The first high-volume proppant test in
the Alger Helling Trust has two new
Middle Bakken wells that have averaged
139,000 boe through 88 days, he says, and
a well completed in the first bench of the
Three Forks produced 104,000 boe through
87 days.
"All the Middle Bakken and Three
Forks wells in both the White Unit and the
Helling Trust have early production that
is trending more than double our corresponding production data for our 750,000
boe Middle Bakken type curve and our
600,000 boe Three Forks type curve, respectively," Robuck reports.
Following significant completion design and reservoir testing in 2014,
downspacing tests and reservoir modeling
indicate that optimizing recovery in the

Bakken and the Three Forks requires
tighter spacing, he says.
Quantifying Upside

WPX Energy Inc. announced in late
June it was resuming completions and
adding two rigs in the Williston Basin during the second half of 2015, as enhanced
EURs and cost savings provide better returns.
The Tulsa-based company says it is recognizing a blended type curve for EURs
of 750,000 boe for its Bakken and Three
Forks wells, which tops previous 600,000
boe estimates by 25 percent. The developments are on course to help the company's
oil volume grow 20 percent in 2016,
with WPX realizing more value on its
acreage by improving completion designs, says Tom Hellman, vice president
of drilling and completions.
According to Hellman, WPX has more
than 85,000 net acres in the core of the
Williston Basin, adding that the company's
well spacing is typical of the area. WPX
also reported proved reserves of 119 million boe at year-end 2014.
The company plans to test its Williston
wells with 10 million-pound stimulations
that feature more stages, more entry points
and higher pump rates in the second half
of 2015 using 100 percent sand, Hellman
indicates. Previously, he says, WPX used

Bill Barrett Corp. has expressed
plans to drill 35-40 operated extended reach lateral wells in the
Denver-Julesburg Basin in 2015
and approximately 40 in 2016. The
company has identified close to
2,000 locations in the Northeast
Wattenberg Field that it can develop with extended reach laterals that tap into the Niobrara A, B
and C, the Codell, and the Greenhorn Limestone.
