Blackmer® Adds NG/NGS Series Gas Compressors

GRAND RAPIDS, MI.-Blackmer®
has unveiled the NG and NGS series reciprocating gas compressors. Both products
have been designed to optimize operational
capabilities in critical oil field production
and storage applications, including wellhead annulus, gas-head pressure reduction;
wellhead vapor control; pressure boosting;
tank-battery vapor control and recovery;
gas gathering; gas evacuation; gas blanketing; flare elimination; and enhanced
oil and gas recovery.
Blackmer describes the NG Series
compressors, which are available in eight
models, as highly efficient and available
in heavy-duty single- and two-stage configurations. Their advanced design and

materials, which include a standard double
seal with a single distance piece located
between two sets of seals on each piston
rod, provide maximum performance with
minimum maintenance, the company adds.
The NGS Series compressors have
been designed to handle sour gas that
may contain as much as 8 percent dry
hydrogen sulfide, and are available in
eight models also, as well as in single- or
two-stage configurations with standard
double seal. To enhance their compatibility
with sour gas, the NGS compressors
feature select parts in all gas-containment
areas and steel wrist pins that ride on
steel needle bearings for extra life under
severe operating conditions, Blackmer
reports.
Both the NG and NGS series compressors offer a ductile-iron head and
cylinders, pressure-lubricated crankcases,
air-cooled cylinders and o-ring gaskets
throughout to provide positive sealing
under all operating conditions, Blackmer
says. The compressors can achieve flow
rates from 10 to 600 Mcf a day at maximum allowable working pressures to 615
psi.

Schlumberger Volunteers For Offshore Safety Audit

HOUSTON-Schlumberger has become
the first service and supply contractor to
achieve voluntary Center for Offshore
Safety-member certification of its safety
and environmental management systems.
SEMS certification is mandatory for
offshore operators, but not contractors,
notes COS Executive Director Charlie
Williams. "Contractors play a critical
safety role in which good communication
with operators is vital," he suggests. "Getting its management systems certified
voluntarily shows the importance Schlumberger places on safety, the environment,
and the relationship between contractors
and operators."
SEMS, which focuses on establishing,
managing and measuring barriers that
protect against escalation to a major incident, are intended to foster continuous

learning and improvement for safety and
environmental management, COS says.
The voluntary certification program for
contractors requires participation in a
COS program SEMS audit using independent verification by third-party auditors
that COS has assessed and accredited.
"This exercise not only highlighted
the numerous strengths of our organization,
but also identified opportunities for improvement," says Rob Cummings,
Schlumberger's health, safety and environment manager for North America offshore. "This process of continuous assessment and progression ensures that
our system is maintained to the highest
standards in the industry."

Time-Saving Frac Plugs
See 5,000th Deployment

HOUSTON-Magnum Oil Tools International has deployed its 5,000th Magnum Vanishing Plug™ (MVP™) since
the product's launch in late 2014.
As the world's first dissolvable frac
plug, Magnum says the MVP reduces
the risk, time and cost associated with
well intervention, and improves safety at
the well site. The company explains that
the plug dissolves on its own at a predictable rate when introduced to common
downhole operating temperatures, eliminating the need to drill out frac plugs.
Only nine months after its introduction,
the plug has been proven and implemented
in the field by leading operators and deployed in 381 wells, Magnum reports.
The plug has been used by 31 operators
in 18 North American shale plays, including the Eagle Ford, Niobrara, Woodford, Bakken, Tuscaloosa Marine, Utica
and Haynesville, as well as in the Permian
Basin.
The company estimates that without
frac plug drill-outs, operators save
$300,000 on each completion.

Quicksilver Gets Approval
For Discovery LNG Exports

CALGARY-Quicksilver Resources
Canada Inc. has received approval from
the Canadian National Energy Board to
export as much as 20 million tons a year
of liquefied natural gas from its Discovery
LNG site located near Campbell River,
British Columbia, for 25 years.
The NEB indicates it has determined
that the quantity of gas Quicksilver proposes for export is surplus to Canadian
needs. The NEB goes on to say it is satisfied that Canada's gas resource base,
and the overall North American gas resource base, is sufficient to accommodate
reasonably foreseeable Canadian demand.
According to the NEB, the approved
export points are the north side of Campbell River at the outlet of the loading
arm of a proposed natural gas liquefaction
terminal.
