have added entire fields as their companies underwent mergers and acquisitions.
The applications further provide editing, reporting and data export functionality that ensures compliance with audits,
industry regulations and standard operating procedures. Data validations and
system balancing flag data anomalies, account for missing data, expose sources of
unaccounted-for inventory, and maximize
the integrity of the measurement information.
Furthermore, the measurement automation applications integrate measurement office operations with field technician tasks and allow everyone to work
with a common database and reports. Integration significantly reduces potential
sources of error and increases efficiency.
Fundamental to any measurement automation application is an easy way to rapidly drill down through multiple detail levels to make the most effective use of the
information.
A large field with thousands of wells
can rapidly accumulate a vast amount of
information in the database. Typically,
flow computers at remote meter sites are
responsible for most of the incoming information. The flow computers gather
pressure, differential pressure and temperature information from sensors and
process it through averaging, totalizing
and calculations for volume or mass.
The results are stored over time frames
such as 15 minutes, hourly, daily and
monthly (Figure 1).
Advanced measurement automation
applications provide a variety of preconfigured, graphical and tabular displays that
allow users to navigate through the time
periods and correlate the information
with the appropriate, constant parameters
plus quality data that can span a different
time frame (Figure 2). With this capability, the user can view a multitude of
hourly, daily, batch and monthly flow data
as well as characteristic and analysis
data in either tabular format or graphically (Figure 3). The complete visibility of
information allows management to keep
abreast of well performance and production trends.
