RFID Sub Adds Flexibility To Deepwater Operations

HOUSTON-Weatherford International
PLC has released the JetStream® radio
frequency identification circulation sub.
The company says the sub enables operators to run a series of tools at different
positions along a drill string and remotely
actuate valves an unlimited number of
times in a single trip, achieving higher
flow rates and cleaner wellbores.
"Weatherford has pioneered the innovative application of RFID technology in

the oil and gas industry to drive operations
efficiency. As operators deal with more
complex wellbores, the ability to drop an
RFID tag from the surface and circulate
it through the sub enables our clients to
open and close downhole tools multiple
times, which provides superior operational
flexibility and saves days of rig time,"
says Neil Gordon, vice president of intervention services and drilling tools at
Weatherford.

adds, RFID technology could save companies more than $1 million for each application by reducing nonproductive time.

SURGITECH Buys Process For Saving Marginal Wells
HOUSTON-SURGITECH Inc. reports
it has entered into a definitive agreement
with Fontus Companies to acquire the
assets of Fontus Technologies, Fontus
Chemicals and Fontus EOR JV1. SURGITECH describes Fontus as a leading
provider of mobile, miscible gas-generating technology for increasing recovery
factors and accelerating production from
marginal oil wells.
Fontus has treated 1,000 wells since
its founding, using a unique, low-cost
and mobile miscible gas-generating technology that it combines with proprietary,

all-natural solvent formulations, SURGITECH says.
"With low commodity prices, many
tens of thousands of wells become uneconomic to produce as a result of legacy
wellbore damage and lack of reservoir
energy because of severe pressure depletion," says Glenn R. McColpin, SURGITECH's chief executive officer. "These
technologies provide a way to inexpensively increase both the production rates
as well as the overall recovery factors."

Wood Group Receives Contract In Powder River
HOUSTON-Wood Group reports it
has been awarded a $31 million contract
by Carbon Creek Energy on its coalbed
methane asset in Wyoming's Powder
River Basin. Wood Group PSN will
deliver operations management services
to the field, which consists of 7,000 drilled
wells and 6,000-12,000 drillable locations.
Wood Group says the field produces 385
million cubic feet of gas a day.
The initial contract is for 12 months,
and will be reviewed annually, Wood
Group details, noting that it will create
as many as 65 positions.
"This new contract strongly positions
Wood Group PSN as one of the foremost

providers of support to CBM assets in
the Powder River Basin," suggests John
Glithero, president-Americas for Wood
Group PSN. "Managing services in unconventional oil and gas basins, including
the CBM market, presents a significant
growth opportunity for us."
Tom Fitzsimmons, president of Carbon
Creek, adds that aligning the two companies' core values will help take the
CBM assets to the next level of performance. "I am very confident that Wood
Group's team will bring its many years
of experience in the CBM sector to bear
on our assets," he says.

Sercel's GeoTag Provides
Seismic Survey Positions

PARIS-CGG's manufacturing subsidiary
Sercel has launched GeoTag, an acoustic
positioning solution for seabed seismic acquisition. CGG says GeoTag can be used
to accurately position all types of ocean
bottom cable, ocean bottom node, and transition zone cable systems for seabed seismic
surveys in water depths to 1,640 feet.
The GeoTag solution operates with
the smallest acoustic positioning transponder available on the market, CGG says.
The transponders are attached to the
seabed seismic equipment and interrogated
by a vessel-based transceiver.
The transponders also can be stored
on a reel and deployed mechanically
when used with ocean bottom cable systems, the company points out.
"This new product capitalizes on our
proven experience in acoustic positioning,"
says Pascal Rouiller, Sercel's chief executive officer. "It answers the need in
the industry for more accurate positioning
of seabed seismic equipment, particularly
for 4-D operations."

Vallourec To Provide OCTG
For Stampede Development

BOULOGNE-BILLANCOURT,
FRANCE-Vallourec has been selected
to deliver 14,000 tons of premium tubes
for Hess Corp.'s Stampede project in the
Gulf of Mexico. Stampede is a deepwater
subsea development in the Green Canyon
Block area, 115 miles south of Fourchon,
La., Vallourec notes.
The company says it is providing 5,000
tons of oil country tubular goods for
critical deepwater development wells, including high-performance premium grades
from Europe and Ohio. Vallourec indicates
most of the pipe will be threaded at VAM
USA in Houston with VAM® SLIJIITM
and VAM® HPTM for a total of more
than 12,000 premium connections.
The contract also covers 9,000 tons
of seamless steel line pipe for flowlines
and steel catenary risers (SCRs) that will
be installed in 3,500 feet of water, Vallourec continues. The company says the
products it provides will include SCR
pipes with very tight pipe end tolerances
and optimal welding characteristics, key
features to reduce both the cost and risk
of project execution.
