Blackmer® Compressors Control Harmful Vapors

GRAND RAPIDS, MI.-Blackmer®,
a product brand within PSG®, a Dover
company, is releasing its new triple-seal
HD943 and HDL943 oil-free reciprocating
gas compressor line. The company reports
the units feature a double-distance piece
design with three individual sets of packing
to maintain product purity and prevent
oil migration. Blackmer says the compressors are designed for applications
that require maximum leakage control.
The compressors' nonlubricated (oilfree) design includes two distance piece
compartments between the compressor's

cylinder and crankcase. External ports at
the top and bottom of distance piece
chambers can be used for pursing, pressuring or venting, Blackmer says, providing
the user with maximum leakage control
of vapors that normally would vent into
the crankcase uncontrollably.
The company points out the design
also allows potentially harmful vapors to
be routed to a recovery tank, disposal
area or flare system before they can escape
to the atmosphere.
In addition to the distance piece design,
Blackmer says its HD943 and HDL943
compressors feature high-efficiency ductile-iron valves with PEEK valve plates,
ductile-iron heads and cylinders, three sets
of self-adjusting PTFE piston rings, and a
precision-ground crankshaft. According
to the company, these features maximize
the compressors' performance and reliability
under severe service conditions.

New Asphaltene Inhibitor Protects Deepwater Wells

HOUSTON-Baker Hughes now offers
FATHOMTM XT SUBSEA525, which it
describes as a high-performance, lowdosage inhibitor for controlling asphaltene
deposition in deepwater wells.
During production, crude oils can deposit asphaltenes inside pumps and pipes,
creating production issues such as plugged
flowlines and clogged equipment that can
be costly to remediate. To lessen the risk
of asphaltene deposition and enhance flow,
Baker Hughes says the FATHOM XT inhibitor can be applied at low treatment
levels during initial production and throughout the life of the well. The company
points out that the low dosage rate simplifies
supply logistics, reduces on-site storage
requirements, and lowers handling risks.
"Improving production while minimizing operating costs is one of the most
critical challenges facing our customers,"
says Ruben DeVelasco, Baker Hughes'
vice president of upstream chemicals.

Propel SSPTM Proves Ability
To Cut Completion Costs

SUGAR LAND, TX.-During a sixwell field trial, Fairmount Santrol reports
its proprietary Propel SSPTM proppant
transport technology increased initial 90day oil production 39 percent compared
with offset wells.
Enerplus Corp. performed the trial in
the Three Forks and Middle Bakken formations of the Williston Basin, comparing
six Propel SSP wells with five offset
wells completed using northern white
sand in a traditional cross-linked gel fluid
system. The comparison specified the
same proppant volume per lateral foot,
Fairmount Santrol notes. The company
says Propel SSP delivered higher production by increasing the propped surface
area.
Propel SSP also simplified hydraulic
fracturing operations by reducing fluid
additive consumption 77 percent and
pumping time 14 percent, Fairmount
Santrol relates, explaining that the technology can be pumped easily at high
loading rates in low-viscosity fluids.
According to Fairmount Santrol, the
operator achieved further cost efficiency
because Propel SSP does not require fluid
heating at temperatures at or above 35
degrees Fahrenheit, whereas traditional
crosslinked gel fluids must be heated to
60-70 degrees to hydrate. Fairmount
Santrol reports that eliminating the heating
requirement saved the operator $0.90 per
barrel of water.
