press; meanwhile, AGs in his coalition
have subpoenaed at least one policy
group's correspondence with the media.
We call on these AGs to halt their
investigation immediately and to lay out
for the public the full extent of this
collusion."
A news release from the Competitive
Enterprise Institute notes that at a
March 30 press conference, AGs from
New York, Massachusetts, Virginia,
Connecticut, Maryland, Vermont and
the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as
former U.S. Vice President Al Gore,
announced "an unprecedented coalition
of top law enforcement officials
committed to aggressively protecting
and building on progress the United
States has made in combating climate
change . . . by threatening criminal
investigations and charges against
companies, policy organizations,
scientists, and others who disagree with
its members' climate policy agenda."
E&E Legal says that after CEI
criticized "these AGs' intimidation

campaign," the Virgin Islands' attorney
general subpoenaed 10 years of CEI
records.
E&E Legal says the e-mails it
obtained show communication and
coordination among:
* The New York attorney general's
Environmental Protection Bureau;
* A Vermont assistant attorney general;
* An environmental lawyer working
for the Climate Accountability Institute
and the Global Warming Legal Action
Project of the Civil Society Institute; and
* The Union of Concerned Scientists.
The latter two, according to E&E
Legal, have been pushing for
investigations against dissenting groups
at least since a 2012 workshop in
California on "convincing attorneys
general to investigate 'deniers' through
the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt
Organizations Act."
"These e-mails strongly suggest (a)
financial motive for AGs to pursue their
political opponents, not content with
merely silencing and scaring away

support for those who dare disagree
with their extreme global warming
agenda," states Craig Richardson, E&E
Legal's executive director.
He adds that e-mails obtained by CEI
also show academics aspiring to "convince
state AGs to file suit" under RICO laws,
"also plainly with an eye toward obtaining
a massive settlement to underwrite the
global warming campaign."
According to published reports, the
New York attorney general began an
investigation into Exxon Mobil's
communications regarding its climate
change research, and last November
subpoenaed more than a decade's worth of
financial records, e-mails and documents.
