NOV Purchases Designer
Of Completion Equipment
HOUSTON-National Oilwell Varco Inc.
has entered into a definitive agreement to
acquire the completion tools business of
Trican Well Service Ltd. The business designs and sells innovative and patented
downhole tools for multistage fracturing
and multizone completions in North America
and select international markets, NOV says.
"This transaction represents an exciting
step for NOV in expanding the breadth of
our completion- and production-related
product offerings," comments NOV Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer
Clay Williams. "The transaction allows
NOV to leverage our best-in-class manufacturing and global supply chain to expand
sales into new markets, and meet our customers' demands for cost-effective, innovative and high quality completion tools.
"The technologies acquired along with
the talented team, which will continue to
develop downhole completion solutions as
part of the NOV family, make this transaction
consistent with our strategy of investing in
solutions that assist our customers in lowering their cost of supply," he concludes.
On June 1, NOV indicated the transaction
was expected to close by the end of June.r

CORTEC has expanded its
CORTEC Manifold Systems
Lafayette manufacturing facility
and relocated its Port Allen, La.,
facility. The company attributes
the move to customer demand.
The Port Allen facility now supports its full range of service operations, including sales, engineering, quality, machining, product assembly and testing, inventory, and coating. It is equipped
with specialized machinery capable of manufacturing high-pressure, metal-seated ball valves and
testing equipment designed for
severe service applications,

Frank's International Runs First String Weight Reducer
HOUSTON-Frank's International N.V.
reports it deployed its patented 1,250-ton
buoyancy module spider along with ExPert
Landing String Solutions' drill pipe buoyancy modules to help Anadarko achieve a
nearly 250,000-pound reduction in total
string weight. Frank's says this was the industry's first run of the ground-breaking
weight reduction system, which saves time
and money while improving safety.
Working closely with Anadarko and
ExPert to deliver a customized solution,
Frank's reports it completed the job safely
and successfully aboard Diamond Offshore
Drillings' Ocean BlackHawk drill ship positioned on the Walker Ridge Block 51
Shenandoah V well. The company points
out the job also involved using its 1,250ton slip-type elevator and split bushing
spider to install 19,821 feet of casing, and
using Frank's new 1,250-ton buoyancy
module spider and 1,500-ton drill pipe elevator to install 5,929 feet of landing string.
"Our leading-edge equipment combined
with our expertise eliminated the need to
run three independent casing strings, delivering an extra margin of safety and
saving Anadarko valuable time and money,"
says Jeremy Angelle, Frank's senior vice
president of technology and engineering.
The expected buoyed string weight of
casing and drill pipe was approaching the
rig's weight capacity, Frank's relates.
Anadarko achieved a 10 percent reduction
in string weight by running ExPert's drill
pipe buoyancy modules and applying
Frank's buoyancy module spider, which
the company says is the only technology
that can clean the modules during removal

and accommodate their large outer diameter.

TETRA, DOF Subsea Ally
To Serve Gulf Operators
THE WOODLANDS, TX.-TETRA
Technologies Inc. subsidiary EPIC Divers
& Marine LLC and DOF Subsea Group
say they will collaborate to provide integrated saturation diving and remote operating vehicle services to customers operating
in the Gulf of Mexico and within the North
American region.
The collaboration reflects both companies' strategic objective to increase overall
service offerings and allows shared customers to access best-in-class project management services and innovative technologies, the partners say. They indicate EPIC
will provide diving resources while DOF
subsea provides ROV services from the
diving support vessel Skandi Achiever.
"This working partnership brings together the leading providers of diving and
ROV services with a vessel that is uniquely
suited to this region," says Marco Sclocchi,
executive vice president for DOF Subsea,
North America.
The Skandi Achiever is a 348-foot DP2
vessel equipped with an 18-man, 1,000foot DNV-classed saturation diving system,
two work class ROVs, and a 140-ton active
heave-compensated crane, the partners describe.
