the effects of a proposed action and

NOAA's various statutes."
The International Association of
Geophysical Contractors says while it
still is reviewing the final acoustic
guidance, it appears major revisions
recommended by the industry and other
reviewers were ignored. IAGC warns
the guidance is likely to increase the
numbers of estimated Level A takes and
the size of activity exclusion zones, at
least for some marine mammal species.
"This likely will lead to excessive
estimates of 'takes' under MMPA for
geophysical survey sound sources when
there have been no proven incidents of
harm to any marine mammal stocks
anywhere in the world by geophysical
activities," the association says.

LOGA Establishes Fund
For Victims Of Flooding
BATON ROUGE, LA.-As it did
following Hurricane Katrina in 2005,
the Louisiana Oil & Gas Association
has established a relief fund to help the
recovery efforts of people affected by
August flooding across southern
Louisiana.
"We will collect all contributions and
then work with various organizations
and groups across Louisiana to
determine what will be the best use of
the dollars," promises LOGA President
Don Briggs. "Rest assured that 100
percent of the contributions collected
will be used for those who need it the
most, and that every dollar will be used
to make a difference."
Briggs mentions that LOGA's
Hurricane Katrina fund "directly helped
to rebuild many homes and businesses,
giving families a new start."

Pipelines For America
Promotes Infrastructure
COLUMBUS, OH.-In the face of
the keep-it-in-the-ground movement's
opposition not only to oil and gas
development, but the infrastructure
necessary to move it to market, the
Consumer Energy Alliance has
launched the Pipelines for America
campaign, which CEA President David
Holt says "aims to educate consumers
in the U.S. Midwest about the
increasing importance of energy
infrastructure, and how more is needed
to lower consumer energy costs, support
local industry and manufacturing,
bolster job and economic growth, and
better protect the environment."
Holt notes that natural gas from
Appalachian shale deposits has the
potential to significantly reduce the
costs of electricity and agricultural
costs, but that "the pipeline
infrastructure to bring these resources to
market remains largely inadequate,
particularly in Michigan, Ohio and
eastern portions of the Midwest."
Adds Chris Ventura, director of
CEA's Midwest Chapter, "America's
pipeline development goes hand-inhand with energy production in
contributing to our nation's economic
success. Constructing state-of-the-art
pipelines remains the safest way to
transport oil and natural gas across the
Midwest."
Holt says CEA's regional campaign
is the start of a nationwide effort
utilizing advertising, events and grassroots activities to engage consumers on
how to better support affordable energy
through greater pipeline development.
Additional efforts will target the U.S.
Southeast, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic
regions.

Tcf in storage on July 22, which was
18.9 percent above the five-year
average. The Aug. 26 storage number
was 238 Bcf more than a year ago,
when gas storage stood at 3.163 Tcf.
According to EIA, gas storage in the
East Region was 796 Bcf on Aug. 26,
6.0 percent above the five-year average
and 81 Bcf more than on July 22, when
storage stood at 715 Bcf, which was
10.0 percent above the five-year
average. East Region gas storage on
Aug. 26 was 52 Bcf more than a year
ago.
Gas storage in the Midwest Region
stood at 904 Bcf on Aug. 26, 10.0
percent above the five-year average and
89 Bcf more than the 815 Bcf in storage
on July 22, which was 20.2 percent
above the five year average. Aug. 26 gas
storage in the Midwest Region was 102
Bcf more than a year ago.
In the Mountain Region, EIA says,
gas storage was 222 Bcf on Aug. 26,
24.7 percent above the five-year average
and 9 Bcf more than the 213 Bcf stored
on July 22, which was 31.5 percent
above the five year average. Gas storage
in the Mountain Region was up 35 Bcf
from a year ago.
Gas storage in the Pacific Region
was 310 Bcf on Aug. 26, 6.1 percent
below the five-year average and 8 Bcf
less than the 318 Bcf stored on July 22,
which was 0.6 percent above the fiveyear average. Pacific Region gas storage
on Aug. 26 was down 35 Bcf from a
year ago.
In the South-Central Region, gas
storage levels on Aug. 26 were 1.169
Tcf, 18.4 percent above the five-year
average, but down 64 Bcf from the
1.233 Tcf in storage on July 22, which
was 27.8 percent above the five-year
average. The Aug. 26 gas storage level
for the South-Central Region was up 84
Bcf from a year ago. ❒
