Randy Freeborn Serving As SPE Distinguished Lecturer
CALGARY-Randy Freeborn, chief
research engineer with Energy Navigator,
has been asked to share his expertise in
type well creation with international audiences as one of the Society of Petroleum
Engineers' distinguished lecturers for
2016-17, Energy Navigator reports.
Freeborn, a petroleum engineer with
more than 40 years of experience, is a
key technical contributor to Energy Navigator's Value Navigator economics and
reserves software, the company says. He
already has presented his talk, "Two Vital
Secrets for Building Better Type Wells,"
to audiences in Alberta, Saskatchewan,
Colorado, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas and
California. In early 2017, Energy Navigator
says he will present to SPE groups in
Romania, Norway, Switzerland, Uganda,
and Angola.
"We are so proud that Freeborn has
been recognized as an SPE Distinguished

Austin, TX.-Drillinginfo has acquired
the assets, product lines and related services associated with Ponderosa Energy, a
division of Ponderosa Advisors LLC.
According to Drillinginfo, Ponderosa
Energy leverages state-of-the-art, proprietary databases and analytical tools for
investing in crude oil, natural gas and
natural gas liquid markets.
The acquisition includes Ponderosa
Energy's production forecast tools such
as The Fundamental Edge, a subscription-based market outlook service, and
PRODcast, which Drillinginfo describes
as an online tool that allows users to run
real-time forecast scenarios specific to
their needs. The company says the oneof-a-kind production forecast model allows
users to better understand more than 500
break-evens across the United States and
assess relative economic advantages of
specific producers based on acreage, productivity, and cost.

New Schlumberger Service Advances Acid Fracturing
HOUSTON-Schlumberger has
launched its OpenPath Sequence diversion
stimulation service, which the company
says sequentially diverts acid into additional clusters or zones to maximize
wellbore coverage. This results in more
precise treatment placement and greater
production than traditional methods,
Schlumberger reports.
OpenPath Sequence is the first service
in the industry to use degradable fibers to
suspend multimodal particles that enable
sequential interval stimulation in acid
stimulations, Schlumberger says. According to the company, the service can be
used for acid fracturing or matrix stimulations in carbonate reservoirs, as well as
restimulation treatments in mature fields.

"With acid stimulations, it often is
challenging to achieve the wellbore coverage needed to optimize recovery," says
Amir Nessim, Schlumberger's president
of well services. "Often, mechanical isolation is not a feasible option because of
operational constraints. OpenPath Sequence provides reliable, accurate zonal
coverage, with the added benefit of more
streamlined operations for both cased
and open-hole completions."
During tests in the Middle East and
North American plays such as the Permian
Basin, the acid diversion stimulation service
has demonstrated proven diversion and
significantly improved production, the
company says. In a Middle East vertical
well where a customer wanted to stimulate
two zones with multiple clusters, the
service enabled productivity to improve
from 350 barrels a day to 1,200 bbl/d,
Schlumberger reports.
