Platform Compares Value
Of Exploration Acreage
HOUSTON-CGG Robertson and
Wood Mackenzie have launched the EV2
decision support platform, which they
say combines CGG's geologic expertise
with Wood Mackenzie's commercial insight to enable clients to determine the
value of undrilled exploration acreage in
the world's most prospective basins.
EV2 differentiates volume and value
potential at basin, play and block scales,
and combines this analysis with unique
functionality, such as the ability to change
underlying subsurface modeling assumptions, the partners report. They mention
that users can incorporate proprietary
knowledge from seismic, geologic data
and in-house expertise to calibrate yetto-find reserve assumptions, subsurface
risk maps, and oil price assumptions.
Custom scenarios allow quick comparisons
of farm-ins, license rounds, and new deal
opportunities, the partners add.
The platform covers 100 priority basins
around the world in areas with leading
exploration potential, upcoming license
rounds, and high-profile prospects to help
clients secure the best value return on investment, CGG and Wood Mackenzie
say. They promise to add 80 basins by
March 2017.
"EV2 is timely, easy to use, and adds
objectivity to decision making," says Neal
Anderson, president of Wood Mackenzie.
"This is the first tool that provides an independent, transparent and consistent
view of volume and value potential for
undrilled acreage. The ability to value
corporate acreage portfolios will help explorers invest wisely."

Rockwell Automation Offers Intrinsically Safe I/O Module
MILWAUKEE-With its Allen-Bradley
Bulletin 1719 Ex I/O platform, Rockwell
Automation says operators can bring devices deployed in hazardous areas into
the connected enterprise through
Ethernet/IP in order to access data and
control processes more easily.
As part of Rockwell's PlantPAx distributed control system, the Bulletin 1719
Ex I/O allows users to monitor operations
through a common platform that communicates with the distributed control
system or other automation systems, according to the company. Rockwell says
this connectivity helps information to
flow seamlessly throughout
the facility and enterprise.
The new I/O platform

is integrated into the Rockwell Software
Studio 5000 design environment to simplify the user experience and reduce
configuration time, Rockwell says. An
EtherNet/IP device-level-ring (DLR)
adapter enables DLR topology to improve network resilience, and an optional
N+1 power supply provides power redundancy, the company continues.
The distributed I/O platform is certified
for mounting in Class I, Division 2 (North
America) and Zone 2 (global) hazardous
areas, Rockwell assures.

PGS Buys Supercomputer To Deliver Seismic Faster
SEATTLE-Cray Inc. announces that
PGS has enhanced its supercomputing
capabilities significantly by purchasing
a 12-cabinet Cray® XC™ supercomputer.
PGS, which Cray describes as a leader
in marine seismology, also added 2.8
petabytes of capacity to its Cray Sonexion®
storage system.
PGS bought a 5-petaflop Cray XC su-

Altronic's GOV+ electronic speed governor provides
closed loop speed control for an engine by controlling
an actuator. The product communicates with industry-standard PLCs through Ethernet/IP or Modbus
TCP, and is designed for use in hazardous areas, Altronic says. The governor incorporates startup logic
with ready, purging, starting, warm-up and running
stages, the company continues, adding that the
Gov+ has three adjustable warm-up ramps with
ramp speeds configurable in rpms per second with
"hold" timers. For information, visit www.altronicllc.com.

percomputer and a Sonexion storage solution
in March 2015, Cray notes. The company
says the systems played an instrumental
role in producing the most detailed images
ever of the Gulf of Mexico's subsurface as
part of the PGS Triton survey.
Named "Galois" after the French mathematician Évariste Galois, the system
will allow PGS to run larger jobs with
more complex data and algorithms to
produce higher-quality images in less
time, Cray says.
"Galois provides forward-thinking computational capabilities for faster delivery of
reverse time migration images and full
waveform inversion studies," confirms Guillaume Cambois, PGS executive vice president
of imaging and engineering. "PGS has
brought unique capabilities to the market
using Cray supercomputers, enabling advanced generation and analysis of high resolution prestack images of the subsurface."
