Gas Storage Levels
Decrease By 685 Bcf
WASHINGTON-Underground
natural gas storage in the United States
stood at 3.360 trillion cubic feet on Dec.
23, 2.3 percent below the five year
average, according to the U.S. Energy
Information Administration. That was
down 685 billion cubic feet from the
4.045 Tcf in storage on Nov. 18, which
was 6.3 percent above the five-year
average. The Dec. 23 storage number
was 412 Bcf less than a year ago, when
gas storage stood at 3.772 Tcf.
According to EIA, gas storage in the

East Region was 757 Bcf on Dec. 23,
8.0 percent below the five-year average
and 178 Bcf less than on Nov. 18, when
storage stood at 935 Bcf, which was 1.9
percent above the five-year average.
East Region gas storage on Dec. 23 was
124 Bcf less than it was a year ago.
Gas storage in the Midwest Region
stood at 946 Bcf on Dec. 23, 0.3 percent
above the five-year average, but 207 Bcf
less than the 1.153 Tcf in storage on
Nov. 18, which was 6.5 percent above
the five year average. Dec. 23 gas
storage in the Midwest Region was 86
Bcf less than a year ago.
In the Mountain Region, EIA says,
gas storage was 217 Bcf on Dec. 23,
15.4 percent above the five-year average
and 42 Bcf less than the 259 Bcf stored
on Nov. 18, which was 24.5 percent
above the five year average. Gas storage
in the Mountain Region was up 21 Bcf
from a year ago.
Gas storage in the Pacific Region
was 283 Bcf on Dec. 23, 12.9 percent
below the five-year average and 45 Bcf
less than the 328 Bcf stored on Nov. 18,
which was 10.6 percent below the five-

year average. Pacific Region gas storage
on Dec. 23 was down 57 Bcf from a
year ago.
In the South-Central Region, gas
storage levels on Dec. 23 were 1.157
Tcf, 0.3 percent below the five-year
average and down 213 Bcf from the
1.370 Tcf in storage on Nov. 18, which
was 11.6 percent above the five-year
average. The Dec. 23 gas storage level
for the South-Central Region was down
166 Bcf from a year ago. ❒
