No Better time to "Go with the Flow"
Who could have predicted that what started in 1940 as a small
gathering of professionals and friends interested in oil exploration
and production activities in the Permian Basin would evolve into what
today is one of the largest inland oil expositions in the United States?
And yet, as dramatic as the changes that have taken place since its
humble beginnings through today, I am filled with excitement about
the potential and growth for our industry in the future. As large and
informative as the 2014 edition of the Permian Basin International Oil
Show is today, I am convinced our exhibition is living proof that "you
ain't seen nothing yet!"
With the combination of proven production methods such as hydraulic fracturing, and advances in
technologies such as horizontal drilling, the sky truly is the limit for our oil and gas industries. With cautious
optimism and amazing advances in technology, equipment and personnel, the opportunities seem endless
and profitable. And that is what your fellow industry professionals have come to experience at this year's
Permian Basin International Oil Show-the most advanced, most informational show in our history.
And did I mention how much our show has grown? This year we will have more exhibition space than
ever-44,000 square feet to be exact. With almost 40 exhibit spaces added this year and 107 first time
exhibitors, you and your fellow industry professionals have an impressive 685 exhibits to take in over
the three days of our show. And, while every oil show president experiences changes from the previous
exhibition, I can say truthfully that this show has never been bigger or better. It gives me a great sense of
pride to be the 2014 show president.
This year's show promises to deliver new methods and equipment to help all attendees produce more and
maximize every production dollar. With global energy needs growing day by day, it is more important than
ever to find new ways to improve our industry's productivity and efficiency.
I believe you will find every hour you invest in attending the 2014 Permian Basin International Oil Show
to be well worth it, whether you are looking for the latest advancements in the upstream, midstream or
downstream areas of our industry. And you will have opportunities to once again develop even closer ties to
your fellow oil and gas industry men and women. After all, we started 74 years ago as "The Working Man's
Oil Show," and we will prove that once again at the 2014 Show.
I am proud that I have had the opportunity to be part of the growth of the Permian Basin International Oil
Show over the years. Joining the show's Board of Directors in 1996 and its Executive Board in 2006, I never
dreamed I would one day be at the helm of our wonderful show. But I certainly could not execute this
exhibition without the unwavering support of the Permian Basin International Oil Show's dedicated Board of
Directors. The hard work and dedication of every director is the key to this show's success, and I appreciate
their efforts in making this show the largest in our history.
In closing I would like to say "Welcome to Odessa and the 2014 oil show!" I am proud of what you will see
and learn during its duration. Become fully engaged while you are here. You certainly will get the most out
of our show the more you put into it-your time, your resources, and your networking with the top people in
this dynamic industry. Enjoy your stay in our great city. We are awfully glad you are here!
