ACC CardioCareer & CME Guide - March 2008v8 - (Page 17) DIRECTOR, DIVISION OF CARDIOLOGY The University of South Carolina School of Medicine (USC-SOM) and the Dorn Veterans Administration Medical Center (Dorn VAMC) are recruiting an outstanding physician to establish and lead a new, academic Division of Cardiology. The division will be within the Department of Medicine of the USC-SOM and its 270 member integrated faculty group practice. In addition to the Director of the Division of Cardiology, the physician will be the Director of the Cardiology Department at the Dorn VAMC. Both the USC-SOM and the Dorn VAMC are undergoing rapid expansion of all three missions; education, research and clinical care. Significant extra-murally funded cardiovascular related research programs are well established within the USC-SOM in the areas of cardiovascular development, vascular biology and hypertension, signal transduction, and inflammation. In addition excellent biomedical instrumentation core facilities and new laboratory space are available. Significant resources including faculty and support staff positions, new facilities including new catheterization laboratories at the Dorn VAMC, and research support will be made available to ensure the establishment and success of the division. The Palmetto Health-Richland clinical campus of the USC-SOM consists of a 650 bed tertiary-care hospital and a free standing heart hospital. The successful candidate will be a highly skilled, energetic, goal-oriented physician who possesses strong inter-personal skills and a proven academic track record.
