this regard. The coolant along with the abrasive choice can be tailored to give superior appearance quality. Coolant selection also affects the appearance of the final product in multiple ways. Lubricity plays an important role in interacting with the abrasive to enhance product sheen or gloss. Slight changes in surface color can also be witnessed. Often product trials in the laboratory are used to determine the best combination of coolant and abrasives. Another class of abrasives, 3-D (agglomerate, engineered or replicated), can also be used to prolong product life. These products contain multiple layers of abrasive grain and are designed to erode, exposing fresh cutting surfaces continually. There are 3-D belts designed specifically for dry applications and others for wet applications. Typically this class of abrasives performs more predictably in wet finishing and has benefits similar to conventional abrasives. In conclusion, there are many factors to consider when deciding whether your automated deburring machine should be wet or dry. If the advantages of running wet are not significant to you, you should use a dry machine, considering it might be less expensive to acquire and maintain, and it will probably last longer.
