TO FIND an attractive, functional product that
really works for composting. Enter this Waste
System Combo Pack from Dropout Cabinet Fixtures, which uses the front portion of a kitchen
cabinet and a small section of the countertop to
conceal and toss the actual compost hygienically.
This $375 system helps limit the waste placed in
landfills, a concern that is catching on and hopefully here to stay.
FUN FACTS:
" The pack can be used with any type of cabinetry, as long as there is a ¾-in.-minimum lip
above the opening for the tilt-out receptacle.
" A rail can be inserted into the opening of cabinets
without top rails and can be covered by the top
portion of the door to maintain the cabinet style.
" The smooth, hinged lid is opened via a touch spring.
The product was designed for consumers tired of
having a waste receptacle with difficult access under
the sink. An easy-to-use tilt-out receptacle means
no leaning over to access. Previous systems have
been designed with a detached lid with a handle
that has to be removed to access the wastebasket.
According to the company, the system is ideal
for those who choose to use their compostable
waste for animal feed or for composting for their
own use.The system also allows for the separation
of more noxious waste from regular garbage that
may not need to be removed as often.
THE JUDGES WERE MOST IMPRESSED BY THE
QUIET, almost-invisible nature of this Linear
SteamHead by MrSteam, which was designed
to deliver an even amount of steam smoothly. Its
slender profile doesn't extend into the shower space
like conventional offerings, and its opening is three
times the area of a single-point steam head,making
it a quieter option.
FUN FACTS:
" Its profile is enclosed almost entirely within the
shower walls.
" It matches the streamlined look of linear drains.
" It provides fluffy "clouds" of steam that emerge
partially pre-distributed.
" Its interior is comprised of intersecting lines that
expand, slow down and change direction of
the incoming steam before it is released.
The 14.5-in.-wide unit is easy to install between two standard
16-in. on-center studs and features anti-binding end caps that
allow for installation between out-of-tolerance studs without
compromising the seals. The Linear SteamHead runs $350, is
made of anodized aluminum with an anti-corrosion finish and
is compatible with any MrSteam shower system.
