Tango TNG-200, which represents
Riedel's first network-based platform
supporting AES67 and AVB standards.
With its own dedicated intercom
application, the platform can be turned
into a flexible, cutting-edge solution
for a variety of communications
scenarios. The unit itself is equipped
with a high-resolution, full-colour TFT
display that ensures perfect readability
at all times. Intuitive front-panel
controls simplify the recall of presets
and adjustment of audio levels.
Along with powerful processing
capabilities, the Tango TNG-200
features two integrated Riedel digital
partylines, two AES67- and AVBcompatible ports, two Ethernet ports,
one option slot, and redundant power
supplies.

system that users can tailor according

Smartpanel
offers features and capabilities that
will enrich the user experience and

world's first control panel designed

high-resolution,
sunlightreadable, multitouch colour displays;
premium-quality stereo audio; a
multilingual character set; and 18 keys
in just 1RU.
These features make Riedel's new
Smartpanel a powerful
user interface that can
be further expanded

apps. Riedel's first app for the RSP2318 turns the Smartpanel into an
innovative and smart intercom panel.
AES67 and AVB connectivity are
standard, with AES3 over CAT/coax
optional.

volume controls for each key, two USB
ports, two Ethernet connectors, GPIO,

File Transfers

n a cold Ottawa morning in early
January, six members of the
FileCatalyst team boarded a plane
destined for Las Vegas, Nevada. This
time it wasn't for the usual trade show.
This was a team destined for the 66th
Annual Technology and Engineering
Emmy® Awards, where they would
accept as a winner in the Secure
Accelerated File Movement over IP,
including the Internet category. Unlike
the primetime Emmy Awards, this
ceremony wasn't attended by the likes
of Jim Parsons, the cast of Modern
Family, or the paparazzi; however, it
did have an all-star host in Alex Trebek,
a red carpet, and excited individuals
thanking the National Academy of
Television Arts and Sciences.
During the acceptance speech given
by FileCatalyst CEO Chris Bailey, a
mention of the award's importance,
particularly in regards to the media
and broadcast industry, was made.
Bailey commented: "what was once a
niche is now a thriving component of

an evolving industry," and accurately
captured the industry's history and
role FileCatalyst has played.
Years ago, when the media and
broadcasting industry filmed footage,
it was uploaded to a physical device,
shipped to a location for editing and
modifying, and then finalised in that
location. If it needed to be moved
again, the physical drive was shipped
to a secondary location. This time
consuming process was improved
with the introduction of FTP. However,
as resolutions improved and High
Definition (HD) was introduced, file
sizes grew exponentially. FTP was no
longer able to reliably transfer files
and sometimes took longer than it did
to physically ship the footage.
In 2000, the creation of FileCatalyst
allowed
entertainment
and
broadcasting companies to send
assets digitally, in a secure and
reliable manner, and in less time. By
introducing file transfers at speeds
of up to 10 Gbps, FileCatalyst's

technology, which is based on UDP
protocol, is able to transfer hundreds
of times faster than FTP, HTTP, and
other "traditional" methods.
While this method of transferring
files may have been a niche a decade
ago, it is now a necessity as the media
and broadcast industries expand to
4K and 8K and beyond. The evolution
of the industry, as well as the natural
resources, healthcare, gaming, and
military and government industries,
alongside the introduction of new
technologies, has increased the

demand for accelerated file transfer.
As these industries continue to evolve
and overall technologies continue to
emerge, FileCatalyst will continue to
fulfil the demand.
While Chris Bailey and Co-Founder
John Tkaczewski may not have
dreamed of winning an Emmy when
they founded the company, they sure
aren't stopping now. With an Emmy
on display in the office, maybe, just
maybe, an Academy Award will be
added to the trophy case in the near
future.
