Announced towards the end of last
year, the Shogun has a long list of
world firsts in the 4K/HD monitor/
recorder space, including first 4K/
HD monitor/recorder with 12G SDI
and 4K HDMI connections, and first
4K/HD monitor/recorder with SDI to
HDMI and HDMI to SDI conversion. As
well as first 4K/HD monitor/recorder
with a truly pro monitor pixel density
in excess of 300ppi, and first 4K/HD
monitor/recorder with balanced XLR
audio in/out.
Powering the impressive feature
list is the intuitive user interface,
AtomOS6, which includes all the tools
for perfect colour, exposure and focus,
waveform, RGB parade, luma overlay,
vectorscope, as well as test pattern,
peaking, false colour, zebra 0-100%,
and blue only. With every feature one
touch away, new monitoring features
like 2:1 zoom and a host of layout
improvements designed to make
camera setup, shot setup, and work in
post-production easier, the Shogun will
be the "go-to" product for modern day
film makers.
International DP and Filmmaker,
Stefan Czech, was one of the first
European cameramen to get his

hands on a new Shogun, and made
an impressive 24 hr turn around on
a beautifully shot 4K music video for
the German band, Benrix. Stefan said,
"In my opinion, the Shogun makes
the Sony A7S a better camera. It has
the best sharpness, and full frame
in 4K is a boom. The height dynamic
range brings it to a different level,
pairing this lowlight monster and its
full frame sensor with the Shogun's
4K world. Absolutely fantastic! This
is an incredibly important tool for the
filmmaking industry."
The Atomos Shogun is a perfect
implementation of ProRes standard.
Recording all content to 4:2:2 10-bit,
giving the user the choice of HQ/422/
LT bit rates, ability to create Favourite/
Reject XML file markers and, unlike
other ProRes monitor/recorders on the
market, not restricted by file size limits
in the recording (e.g. 4 GB or 2.5 min).
Also on show in Dubai, is the new
Atomos Power Station. Announced
at IBC 2014, the Power Station is
designed to solve one of the biggest
problems for cameramen - the need
for an endless supply of power, it also
eliminates the need for large batteries
or multiple batteries for different
devices.
By utilising the Atomos 'Continuous
Power' technology, this new accessory
gives filmmakers peace of mind
and allows them to focus on the
shot and not the clock. Adding a
Power Station to the set up means
cameramen will never be left without
power in the field, allowing power to
multiple devices, and giving endless

hot swapping of commodity camera
batteries - Endless Power.
Due to ship later this year, Power
Station is a dual battery device with
connections to power up to three
DC devices and two USB devices,
simultaneously. Dual DC outputs and
included splitter cable allow powering
of up to three DC devices on the rig.
With a maximum output of 5 W, the
Power Station allows users to charge
an entire rig from DSLR and lighting
to monitors and Atomos recorders.
Meanwhile, the dual USB power source
allows users to charge a single high
powered 2 A device (e.g. iPad) or two,
lower powered, 1 A devices with two
included 2600 mAh batteries - enough
to charge an iPhone5 from 0 to 100%,
three times over.

exactly how much power they have at
any given time. The independent left
and right LED displays on the front of
Power Station give a quick, five step
visual guide on the power remaining
for each battery, from 100% down to
10%. Users will always know when to
swap the exhausted battery and have
hours to do so.
There are also DC Adapters available
for popular cameras including A7s,
GH4, 5DMKIII, FS700, C100, and more.
Power Station is also an advanced
super-fast charger for dual batteries,
by simply charging the included 2600
mAh NP series batteries, in one hour,
for maximum speed and convenience.
