Excellence in KVM
and Video

s
demand
for
ultra-high
resolutions
becomes
more
prominent for large screen computer
presentation requirements, DisplayPort
has become one of the mainstream
interconnect transmission methods.
DisplayPort for 4K is one of the newest
video interface standards introduced
by VESA, and offers up to four times
the resolution of typical HDTV 1080p
images.
Unfortunately, connectivity between
the source and display is limited to
about three metres at resolutions
higher than 1080p. Going beyond this
limit requires additional components
to extend signals longer distances -
until now. IHSE USA's Draco vario 483
XV series extender cards are designed
for long distance transmission of
DisplayPort, USB, audio, and RS232 signals over single mode fibre
cabling. The 483 SV series extends
signals up to 10 km over single mode
fibre. They provide an effective means
for incorporating high resolution
DisplayPort images, up to 4K, for
ultra-high definition video, and are
easily integrated into the Draco tera
enterprise, and Draco tera compact
line of matrix switch solutions. The
483 XV series DisplayPort extenders
offer incredible visual performance
with ultra-fast response time for
switching and extending DisplayPort/
KVM signals in broadcast and post
production environments. Display
resolutions supported include up to
2560 x 2048 @ 60 Hz for 2K. Ultra

High
Definition
resolutions
for
3840 x 2160 or
4096 x 2160 @ 30
Hz are supported via
IHSE USA's XV models
of fibre extenders.
The Draco vario plug-in
card design offers a wide range of
flexibility for enclosure styles. Vario
enclosure styles are available in 2-slot,
4-slot, 6-slot enclosures, or a 4RU 21
bay chassis. Fixed body extender sets
for DisplayPort/KVM are available in
the 2-slot chassis, which is offered with
internal power.
Optional redundant power for all
styles is available. All enclosures
allow custom configured designs to
fit practically any combination of
input and output requirements for
DisplayPort/KVM. As the 483 series is
based on the same card size as other
Draco vario cards, DisplayPort, DVI,
or HDMI cards can fit in the same
enclosure. For larger facilities, where
many CPU units are rack mounted, the
new VariCage 2100 4U chassis can be
populated to hold up to 21 DisplayPort
extender cards.
IHSE USA's Draco tera matrix is
quickly becoming the main choice for
large scale KVM systems. Now you
can customise the Draco enterprise
matrix switch with fibre or coax SDI
SFPs supporting either SDI or HD-SDI
sources, with the optional UNI-IO plugin card. The UNI-I/O is an innovative
coax/fibre hybrid solution, using

modular SFP
(small
formfactor
pluggable)
technology. The fibre
SFP is based on an
LC plug style, and the
coax SFP is available in
either a transceiver miniBNC or DIN 1.0/2.3 style. With the
UNI-I/O option cards, it's a breeze to
configure individual I/O ports for your
specific needs. Share 3G-SDI coax and
fibre connections on the same eight
port UNI-I/O card. Simply order the
basic UNI-I/O, and add the type of SFP
modules desired.
Supporting video sources for ASI,
SDI, HD-SDI and 3G-SDI, the UNI-I/O
allows users to reside broadcast
sources alongside KVM sources,
in the same matrix frame. This
creates a superior workflow control
arrangement where users must be
able to edit and play out video sources
in real-time broadcast environments.
By using the appropriate coax adapter
cable, it's easy to integrate these
cards into the existing copper facility.
Users who prefer fibre installations
can easily adapt the UNI-I/O with the
3G-SDI fibre SFP option. Both fibre
and coax models comply with SMPTE
ST424, ST292, and ST259 standards
and DVB-ASI at 270 Mb/s.
As KVM systems increase in size,
it becomes more important to have
software that can easily expand to
meet requirements. IHSE has made
it easier for system designers to
configure multiple KVM switch systems
under a single control environment,
by using the Draco Matrix Grid
firmware to dynamically couple up to
16 matrix switch frames into a virtual
super-matrix.
The new firmware enables up to
16 separate Draco tera matrices
to be integrated as a distributed
architecture, separated over long

distances, with either Cat-X or fibre
KVM grid lines.
KVM enterprise switches are
designed to provide transparent
connection between computers and
user workstations in a typical source/
switch/destination
configuration.
A typical large KVM matrix switch
might consist of 32 to 288 ports per
physical frame. This is adequate for
most installations in commercial and
industrial applications, but in some
larger multi-building or campus-wide
facilities, more ports may be required
than are physically available via
one frame. In this case, it becomes
necessary to combine multiple KVM
switches to perform as a single
distributed system architecture.
Matrix Grid, along with IHSE
USA's Draco tera tool, is a new
interconnection
topography
and software application, that
transparently
connects
multiple
matrices together, to form a single
virtual matrix. It automatically,
and
seamlessly,
manages
the
interconnection and prioritisation of
users between their own workstation
and all the computers on the virtual
super-matrix. Users can have access to
any computer on the system, without
regard to their physical location.
Individual users experience a single
matrix switch, and are unaware of
the substructure of the virtual supermatrix. The dynamic architecture of
Matrix Grid makes it possible to access
all sources from each workstation,
even if they are separated by several
miles.
