METALS FABRICATION &
WELDING TECHNOLOGY
The Welding Technology Program will provide the student an
introduction of fundamentals to an advanced comprehension of
welding knowledge, proficiency and practice to meet the skillful
needs of Manufacturing, Aerospace, Auto Industry, Industrial
Fabrication, Pipeline, Ship Building, Bridge Building and Heavy
Construction Occupations.
In the first year of training, the student will be provided an
introduction and understanding of Oxyacetylene Welding and
Cutting (OAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal
Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW),
Basic Blueprint reading for welders, Welding Symbols and Safety.
In the second year, the student will continue to advance and
reinforce previous learning information and training of each the
basic processes. In addition, students will be using Plasma Arc
Cutting (PAC), Flux-cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Submerged Arc
Welding (SAW), Pipe Welding & Techniques, Non-destructive
Examination (NDE) methods, Metallurgy/Metal properties,
Welding Blueprint reading and applications. Students will be
welding on various thickness plate of ferrous and non-ferrous
metals (steels, stainless steels and aluminum) and receive a limited
qualifications to AWS D1.1, Structural Code-Steel.
After completion of the Associate Degree Welding Technology, the
student will have a boundless potential to progress to a higher level
of welding education and skills; he/she may continue with his/her
education to a 4 year Welding Engineer or Welding Manufacturing
Degree Program, or become an AWS Welding Inspector/Educator
or an ASNT Non-destructive Examination Inspector. The graduate
will have the potential to become a Welding Supervisor, Welding
Manager, Welding Leader or Shop Foreman.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
A graduate of this program will be able to do the following:
* Demonstrate the ability to perform technical work related
to welding, structural steel fabrication, sheet metal and plate
fabrication, applying OSHA and industry standards to work
safely in the shop and on the job site.
* Apply concepts of geometry, trigonometry, and physics to
develop, layout, fit, and weld various fittings, structures, and
systems associated with industrial and commercial metals
fabrication/ welding technology.
* Identify and demonstrate correct use of various hand and
power tools used in the fabrication industry.
* Demonstrate the ability to develop and interpret blueprints
using accepted practices of orthographic projection.
* Determine set-up effectiveness of shop equipment
