The I-15 project was finished seven and a half months before its target completion date. health and safety plan to insure worker safety. It included regular meetings to review planned activities and any specific precautions that were needed. NCC recorded zero lost time incidents, logging nearly 1.3 million man-hours over 21 months. Driver safety was ensured largely through the use of a traffic incident management plan. This plan was successful to the extent that traffic accidents during the first 19 months of construction were less than for the preceding 19 months. As a result, NDOT has adopted this plan as a standard for future projects. In addition, the project won the Nevada Contractors Association’s Safest Contractor of the Year Award for 2009. CONCLUSION In the end, the project fully satisfied NDOT’s needs and, in fact, exceeded them. In a letter signed by Martinovich and Jeff Hale, P.E., project manager with NDOT, they compliment NCC on the speed, quality, safety, cooperation and financial responsibility displayed during the project. NCC’s and Nevada’s I-15 project won a 2010 DBIA DesignBuild Merit Award in the Transportation Over $50 Million category. It has also been recognized by the Associated General Contractors of America with the Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering Award. And, possibly the most important achievement, demonstrated to NDOT that design-build is one road to successful highway construction.
