Here’s a look at a few recently completed U.S. water/wastewater projects. The Dannon Co., Utah Dannon chose MWH Constructors to design and construct the new multimillion-dollar wastewater pretreatment facility due to the firm’s design-build wastewater industry experience, as well as the close working relationship between its engineers and contractors. The new facility pretreats the plant’s wastewater prior to discharge to the local municipality’s system and enables Dannon to double yogurt production. The team of the designer, construction project manager and owner developed innovative solutions and addressed constructability issues, such as inclement weather conditions, quickly. An accelerated design-build project delivery method allowed Dannon to begin using its new facility, which was a 2011 DBIA-Rocky Mountain Region Design-Build Award winner, after just six months of design and construction. Goleta Water District, Calif. MW H was the district’s design-builder for the $23 million Corona del Mar Water Treatment Plant upgrades and modifications. Work included the design and construction of several new facilities, including a multipurpose laboratory-administration officecontrol building (LAC) with LEED® Gold certification. A key fixture for plant tours, the LAC building now teaches visitors about best practices for design, construction and resource conservation and boasts an estimated energy savings of more than $85,000 per year.
