The new $103.8-million librar y renovat ion and expansion project at San Francisco State University accommodates a growing student population and addresses the structural inadequacies of the building’s first three phases of construction in 1953, 1959 and 1971, while updating the building’s electrical and telecommunication systems. The two-phase, design-build renovation project included a 60,000-square-foot “West Addition” that houses book stacks and an automated book-retrieval system at ground level; the construction of a 20,000-square-foot “North Addition”; and the renovation and seismic reinforcement of the 282,500-square-foot existing library. The Marine Corps Support Facility is the anchor project for Federal City and the national headquarters of the Marine Forces Reserve. This secure military installation includes a four-story main building, a two-story band annex, a detached warehouse and a multipurpose parade ground.
