The project also featured 450,000 square feet of renovations to existing medical facilities, as well as significant traffic and infrastructure improvements. Industrial/Process/Research Facilities Pierce college Maintenance and oPerations Facility and netZero Plant / Woodland Hills, caliF. // This is the 15th net-zero-energy project in the United States and the thirdlargest of its type. Through a combination of photovoltaic collection panels and solar thermal collectors, the project generates 100 percent of its energy onsite. The gkkworks team exceeded expectations, delivering a project that will soon receive a LEED® Gold rating. The project serves as a baseline for new sustainable projects throughout the district and as a best-practices case study for other higher-education institutions. Office Buildings cuyaHoga MetroPolitan Housing autHority Headquarters / cleveland // The new headquarters of the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) consists of a 75,000-square-foot office building and a 25,000-squarefoot vehicle maintenance and storage area. The latter includes a fueling station, car wash, 500-car parking area and green space. CMHA employed an innovative form of integrated project delivery in procuring design-build services for this LEED® Silver complex. The design-build team and onsite work force exceeded 25 percent minority and local participation goals. Rehabilitation/Renovation/Restoration sHarP cHula vista Medical center eMergency dePartMent and oPerating unit exPansion / san diego // The Sharp Chula Vista Emergency Room project involved a 10,000-square- foot renovation and expansion of an existing emergency department. It created a modern layout with an enlarged waiting room, a new triage area, a bronchoscopy and endoscopy suite, 19 treatment bays and four negativepressure treatment rooms. The efficiency of the new program allowed for six additional treatment bays within the project budget. A request for added entrance modifications was satisfied within the original construction schedule. Rehabilitation/Renovation/Restoration sMitH Hall, university oF colorado at Boulder (cu Boulder) / Boulder, colo. // The renovation of Smith Hall provided one-, two- and three-bedroom suites; offices; common areas; lounges; laundry rooms; and storage spaces for student housing within CU Boulder’s Tuscan Vernacular architectural tradition. Smith Hall is a 55,949-square-foot, 332-bed renovation that includes a new 38,638-square-foot, 136-bed addition that integrates into the existing façade of the Kittredge Complex, which features stones quarried 45 years ago. The design-build team provided today’s students—and tomorrow’s leaders—with the highest quality. Transportation 11400 soutH, state street to Bangerter, neW i-15 intercHange / soutH Jordan, draPer and sandy, utaH // The joint venture between Ames and Wadsworth and A&W Highway Contractors created a new single-point urban interchange at 11400 South and I-15, added northbound and southbound auxiliary lanes on I-15 from 11400 South to 12300 South, reconstructed all lanes of I-15 between 10600 South and 12300 South and constructed five miles of five-lane urban arterial roadway. New bridges carry I-15 traffic over 11400 South, the Union Pacific Railroad, the Jordan River and multiple canal crossings. Water/Wastewater cHarnock Well Field restoration ProJect / santa Monica, caliF. // In 1996, the City of Santa Monica closed the Charnock Well Field, one of its main well fields, after discovering MtBE contamination. After years of working toward an eventual legal settlement, the city awarded a design-build contract to Black & Veatch to complete the fast-tracked restoration project. In less than 20 months, Black & Veatch completed the project and helped the city restore the well field as a sustainable source of water.
