In 2012, GAMA International continued to snap up new members at a record pace. Led
by MassMutual Financial Group’s John Natoli, CLU ChFC CFP CLF CMFC, the association’s
membership committee, for a second year in a row, signed up more than 1,000 people.

Tis success, says Natoli, stemmed from
the “continued effort on the part of all the
committee members to promote GAMA at
company meetings.” Companies let respective
GAMA committee members attend company
meetings, either officially representing GAMA
or unofficially as an opportunity to comment
on what the association has to offer. Te
membership committee’s strategy is to target
companies underrepresented in GAMA and
seek out volunteers from those companies
who can get the job done.
After an organization draws new members in
droves, the next step is holding on to them.
Tat’s why the membership committee pushed
hard on member retention this year and beat
its own goal of 80 percent by four points. “On
this, I think the GAMA staff did a great job of
being proactive and getting renewals early and
sending reminders,” says Natoli.
“I see international outreach as a phenomenal
opportunity, because the international
managers, especially in Southeast Asia and
in South America, are so eager to learn. There
is so much value that we can give them, and
it can really expand our mission of building
the leaders who build the financial services
industry.”
