MEMBERSHIP In 2012, GAMA International continued to snap up new members at a record pace. Led by MassMutual Financial Group’s John Natoli, CLU ChFC CFP CLF CMFC, the association’s membership committee, for a second year in a row, signed up more than 1,000 people. 2012 Membership Drive’s Top 10 Companies Transamerica Agency Network American General Life and Accident Insurance Company Bankers Life and Casualty Company Guardian Life Insurance Company of America American Family Insurance AXA Equitable Thrivent Financial for Lutherans State Farm Insurance Companies Mutual of Omaha Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company Companies With the Most GAMA Members Transamerica Agency Network American General Life and Accident Insurance Company State Farm Insurance Companies Guardian Life Insurance Company of America Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company Mutual of Omaha Bankers Life and Casualty Company Securian Financial Group MetLife MassMutual Financial Group NEWMEMBERS 305 106 72 58 56 52 43 37 35 24 MEMBERS 330 317 237 233 193 185 158 157 145 126 Tis success, says Natoli, stemmed from the “continued effort on the part of all the committee members to promote GAMA at company meetings.” Companies let respective GAMA committee members attend company meetings, either officially representing GAMA or unofficially as an opportunity to comment on what the association has to offer. Te membership committee’s strategy is to target companies underrepresented in GAMA and seek out volunteers from those companies who can get the job done. After an organization draws new members in droves, the next step is holding on to them. Tat’s why the membership committee pushed hard on member retention this year and beat its own goal of 80 percent by four points. “On this, I think the GAMA staff did a great job of being proactive and getting renewals early and sending reminders,” says Natoli. “I see international outreach as a phenomenal opportunity, because the international managers, especially in Southeast Asia and in South America, are so eager to learn. There is so much value that we can give them, and it can really expand our mission of building the leaders who build the financial services industry.” John T.
