Women of ITE: Allies in
Design and in the Workplace
Today more than ever, there is research and resources that make it easier to build the strongest, most competitive work teams and to design communities that work for everyone.
Who is this subcommittee for?
* Women looking for tips on how to grow their career
* All professionals who wish to support their colleagues and teams
* Managers and leaders who want to create a culture where their employees' ideas are
welcome and their talent thrive
* Transportation professionals who want new tools to understand user needs and design
better communities

By Jen Malzer, P.Eng., M.Sc. (F) and
Maggie McNamara, Ph.D. (M),
Subcommittee Co-Chairs

Some transportation professionals genuinely want to engage and learn more about
gender factors in transportation. Here are some opportunities we have started and will continue to develop into 2020:
* An Information Crusade that explores different topics each month relating to women in
the workplace and as transportation users, giving a general overview and providing links
to dig deeper, available at https://www.ite.org/about-ite/women-of-ite-sub-committee
* Governance documents for Women of ITE committees to be struck at different levels of ITE
* A library of different resources such as inclusion activities, potential research or thesis
topics, and presentations that are ready for implementation in our professional context
Here's a secret: Learning about best techniques to overcome bias in the workplace can be
fun. In Austin this past July the Women of ITE hosted an inclusion escape room. We are just in
the testing phase of making this interactive tool available for download from our site.

Want to learn?
The Women of ITE Subcommittee spent 2019 exploring a wide variety of topics on our blog
(https://www.ite.org/about-ite/women-of-ite-sub-committee). These topics have ranged from
women as transportation users to workplace tips for women and the people who want to hire
and retain them. The following pages list monthly highlights that may draw you in.

Did You Know
The Women of ITE Subcommittee is
committed to fostering gender inclusion
among transportation professionals and the
communities we serve through testimony and
research. Whether you are looking to expand
how you view transportation challenges or want
to better support the women in your workplace,
the Women of ITE has resources for you.
