The final versions of both the ITE RP on Preemption of Traffic
Signals Near Railroad Crossings and the ITE RP on Guidelines
for Determining Traffic Signal Change and Clearance Intervals
will be released.
Changes to Employer-Based Councils. ITE's 2018-2020
Strategic Plan adopted by the IBOD identified a need to strengthen
ITE's ties to industry and public sector member organizations.
Beginning in 2020, ITE will transition the Consultants Council and
Public Agency council to similar models as the Industry Council
and with new participation requirements. For more on these
changes, see the Executive Director's message on page 6 and stay
tuned for more information in the coming months.
Professional Development Task Force. Professional
development is a key benefit offered by ITE to its members
and the industry at-large, through resources such as webinars,
LeadershipITE, TPCB refresher courses, and a partnership with
the Consortium for Innovative Transportation Education at the
University of Maryland. The recent member needs assessment
survey indicated members would value more and varied profes-

sional development opportunities, and members have expressed
a desire for richer development experiences that combine blended
and face-to face learning among other interests. In response, ITE
has formed a Task Force to create a Professional Development
Strategic Plan. Led by co-chairs Gene Chartier, P.Eng. (F) and
Bob Murphy, P.E., PTOE (F) this group will undertake a strategic
planning process to chart a course for the future of professional
development delivered by the organization, and a final Task Force
report is planned for early 2020.

Conclusion
Building on the achievements and milestones of the past, and
looking toward the future, ITE is poised to continue its transformation that began in 2017 with the adoption of the 2018-2020 Strategic
Plan. Through its technical products and services, professional
development program, Annual Meeting, initiatives on safety, and
more, the organization continues to seek new and enhanced ways to
serve its members and the transportation industry at-large. itej
