Blossom Festival boasts Grammy-nominated entertainment

LOCATED DEEP in the beautiful pine forests of
South Arkansas, Magnolia offers one of the most
unique events in the state - the Magnolia Blossom
Festival and World Championship Steak Cook-Off.
Each year, guests travel from all over the U.S. to
attend this delicious festival and enjoy the city's
friendly atmosphere.
Kicking off on May 14, the Magnolia Blossom
Festival will celebrate its 32nd year and on May
15, the 31st year for the World Championship
Steak Cook-Off will begin. More than $10,000 in
prize money will be up for grabs with the World
Champion receiving the Governor's Cup and $4,000.
For only $25, festival-goers will get a 16-ounce
steak, salad, baked potato and roll, says Micki
Mitchell, executive director of the MagnoliaColumbia County Chamber of Commerce, and some
of the serving lines will provide a dessert. Drive-thru
tickets will be available for the same price, and this
year, a limited number of tickets will be available.
" We invite cookers to enter as well as cooking

teams, " she says, adding that participants can sign
up online at blossomfestival.org. " We will also have
the appetizer challenge that is associated with the
cook-off. There will be a $500 first place prize as
well as other cash prizes. "
For this year's Blossom Festival entertainment,
Farmers Bank & Trust will present Thompson Square
on the Albemarle Stage beginning at 8 p.m. in The
Square Park. Thompson Square is a husband-andwife team - Keifer and Shawna Thompson. They
took the country scene by storm when they met in
the early 2000s. The couple is Grammy-nominated
and have performed with superstars such as Jason
Aldean and Lady Antebellum. The concert is free
and festival-goers are encouraged to bring their own
lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the event.
" This is going to be a fantastic show, " Mitchell
says. " We are bringing back the live concerts, and it's
going to be so much fun for everyone who attends,
so come out and enjoy it with us. "
