Winter Meeting
Since the merger, Burd notes, GOWV
has trimmed its 28-member Board
of Directors to 15. " That transition has
worked without any issues at all, " he reports.
" When the merger first occurred,
there was some inherent fear issues could
arise between producers and pipelines,
but that has not occurred. Everything has
been as smooth as one could hope for. "
As someone who was active in both
IOGAWV and WVONGA, Anderson says
she recalls a lot of dialogue, give-andtake
and compromise during merger negotiations.
" There were some really sticky
wickets, " she recounts. " But people really
have rallied around the GO-WV brand.
Conflicts have been minimal. The new

Shell Starts Operations
At Pennsylvania Plant
MONOACA, PA.-Shell Chemical
Appalachia LLC has commenced operations
of its Pennsylvania Chemical project,
Shell Polymers Monaca, a facility that it
describes as the first major polyethylene
manufacturing complex in the Northeastern
United States, with a designed output of
1.6 million tonnes a year.
Located within a 700-mile radius of
70% of the U.S. polyethylene market,
the facility sits on 384 acres adjacent to
the Ohio River in Beaver County, Pa.
Shell notes that it has contracted most of
the plant's natural gas feedstock from
the nearby Utica and Marcellus plays.
According to the company, the advantages
of proximity are not limited to production;
but also include shorter supply chains,
which translates to increased flexibility
and access to polyethylene pellets that
can be used in a wide variety of products
such as common household goods, consumer
and food packaging, as well as industrial
and utility products.

a fantastic achievement and one the team

Vigeveno, Shell downstream director.

offers and connected infrastructure, Shell
Polymers Monaca is well positioned and

Monaca began in April 2017 after Shell's
June 2016 final investment decision,
the company notes.

West Virginia's dynamic and exciting oil
and gas industry. I meet so many of the
smartest, kindest, most wonderful people
on the planet. They love West Virginia;
they love what they do and are so motivated
to do things responsibly and carefully. I
am really gratified to represent them. "
Many of those people will gather for
the association's winter meeting on Jan.
18-19 at the Marriott Town Center Hotel

Burd comments. " Our annual meeting was
phenomenal. I think everyone is anticipating

" The winter meeting is well-attended
by both our members and legislators, "
Anderson adds. " When everybody gathers
in Charleston, many lawmakers get a
