Long's Park Summer Music
The Bird-in-Hand Half Marathon-
often named as one of the country's
most unique races-takes runners on a
course through Amish farmlands and
the " Valley of No Wires. " Keeping with
the theme, runners are awarded medals
made from repurposed horseshoes.
For a more relaxed way to see the
countryside around Bird-in-Hand-
and many miles beyond-book a hot
air balloon ride during the Lancaster
Balloon Festival. In addition to the views
from above, you can enjoy carnival rides,
fairgrounds, and food stalls before and
after your ride.

On the First Friday of every month,
Lancaster City celebrates art, culture,
and local creators. Head downtown
from 6-9 p.m. to explore exhibits, tour
galleries, catch live performances and
sample the city's diverse cuisine. If
you're looking to take a deeper dive
into Lancaster's art scene, ArtWalk
self-guided tours are a great way to get
to know the city's artists and galleries.
For fans of the culinary arts, the twiceyearly Lancaster City Restaurant Week
is a chance to try special dishes from
dozens of independent restaurants
-while also supporting social causes.
If you miss First Friday, head to Lititz
for Second Friday. The idea is similar:
shops, restaurants, and galleries
stay open late, and the small town's
sidewalks host entertainers, artists, and
performers. Lititz is also home to several
large annual events, like the Fire and Ice
Festival and the Lititz Chocolate Walk.
Kitchen Kettle Village, located in Birdin-Hand, has been hosting its spring
Rhubarb Festival for over 30 years.
Highlights include jams, desserts, dips,
drinks, and the world's only rhubarb
derby. In the fall, Kitchen Kettle hosts
a two-day Tailgating Festival, where

you can sample gameday favorites
from the Jam & Relish Kitchen, vote for
your favorite scarecrow, and enjoy live
Dixieland music.
If you're traveling to Lancaster with
fans of Thomas the Tank Engine, don't
miss Strasburg Railroad's Day Out
With Thomas events. Snap a photo
with Sir Topham Hatt, take a ride
aboard Thomas, and explore the station
afterwards for plenty of fun and games.
For something a bit more refined, book
a ticket on one of the Wine and Cheese
Train excursions, where you'll be treated
to first-class service on a sunset ride
through some of Lancaster's most
scenic countryside.
For nature lovers, the Riverlands Trail
Festival is a wonderful chance to get
to know one of Lancaster County's
greatest natural resources: the
Susquehanna River. Hike or bike 14 miles
of riverside trails, paddle the river, watch
a canoe race, and learn more about the
Susquehanna at the Columbia Crossing
River Trails Center.

While Lancaster County isn't often
thought of as wine country, several
vintners are trying to change that.
Nissley and Grandview are two local
wineries making excellent wine-and
there's no better time to visit than
during one of their live music events.
Stop by Nissley on Saturday nights all
summer long for Music in the Vineyards,
or make your way to Grandview
Vineyard in Mount Joy for one of their
many weekend concerts throughout
the year. Check out the Wine Trail at
DiscoverLancaster.com for more wine
events.
