John Zuzu, Jr. '82
Congratulations to John Zuzu, Jr. '82 (Architectural Tech) on
his promotion to Managing Director of Corporate Facilities for
Southwest Airlines, Dallas, TX. John started his career at Southwest
22 years ago as a CAD Specialist and went on to numerous roles in the
areas of building design, construction and maintenance. According
to Southwest's Executive Vice President, "John is a consummate
professional and a tremendous leader, managing a myriad of very
complex projects vital to the company's growth - and he and his team
deliver them on time and on budget." You make us Stevens Proud,
John!

Team Building
One of the things that sets Thaddeus Stevens College apart from
many other colleges is the small class size and close-knit feel within
technical programs. From the time students enter their technical
program as freshmen to the time they graduate they spend their
22.5 hours with the same group of students. Recognizing the need to
build a strong sense of community among these groups of students
instructors Katie Surra, Jo Tyndall, and Alex Surra started a freshmen
team building initiative. Now in
its third year the initiative has
grown to include six technical
programs.
During the first week of
classes students enrolled in
the participating programs
complete team building such
as a t-shirt design competition,
generating classroom rules, and
discussions focused on their
worries about transitioning to
college. The week long event
culminates with a catapult
building competition.
The initiative has been very
successful and is expected
to continue to grow as more
programs participate.
