| MAINTENANCE| ODD JOBS Homes are like bodies - they require constant upkeep or they'll start to deteriorate. Keep yours in tip top shape... WORDS: KIA HANSEN | PHOTOGRAPHS: GETTY IMAGES T hose people who own an older home will be all too aware that it requires regular maintenance. But even new homes need a bit of attention to stop problems developing. 'The important thing with all home repairs is to tackle them as soon as you discover them,' says Sussex-based builder and developer, Joe Pocknell, of D&J Developments. 'Even the smallest problems can develop into much bigger and more costly issues over time.' If you're competent at DIY, you can tackle some tasks yourself - check online for possible solutions. Otherwise, bring in the experts. Always call a professional for any gas or electrical problems. Choose two or three different tradespeople to get quotes from, always check references, and never pay upfront for any service - wait until the work is finished to a good standard. > www.athomemagazine.co.uk NOVEMBER 2015 | 229
