of Broadcasters Spring Convention,
Las Vegas, April 11-16...

ven in today's wired world, every
industry supports at least one
major international trade exhibition.
The NAB Show, formerly the National
Association of Broadcasters Spring
Convention, is the longest established
and largest event of its kind in the
broadcast equipment business. First
held in 1923, it eventually locked into
Las Vegas, a venue which has more
than enough accommodation to handle
the nearly 100,000 claimed attendees.
The months, weeks, days, even the
hours, ahead of NAB are a source of
stress for some exhibitors as they
contemplate whether their latest
prototypes will be ready in time for
the show. The following preview looks
at a selection of companies offering
new hardware, software and services.
A wider ranging preview will follow
in the April edition. The main focus of
interest on the show ﬂoor will without
doubt be 4K.
Anevia
will
promote
Cloud
Monitoring, a new service for its
Flamingo XL and XS IPTV headends.
This allows lost channel issues such as
lapsed subscriptions to be identiﬁed
and rectiﬁed automatically before they
cause signiﬁcant interruption to the
viewing experience. The service also
avoids TV viewing disruption linked to
loss of conditional access management
rights. Each Anevia headend, from any
location, pushes its status data on a
regular and controllable basis all using
cloud technology.

Aspera will highlight its ability to
achieve WAN ﬁle transfer speeds of
up to 80 Gbps on a single server.
The combination of Aspera FASP
software and latest generation Intel
processors doubles the previous
speed benchmarks achieved with
Aspera technology by sending the
equivalent of 1 TB of data over a WAN
in approximately two minutes.
Azden will exhibit its new WHDPRO+i Audio Kit which combines the
WLX-PRO wireless microphone system
and the SGM-990 shotgun microphone.
It is compatible with all mobile devices
using a TRRS jack. This includes: Apple
iPhone 3/4/5, iPad (third generation
and newer), Samsung Galaxy S 3
/4/5, Galaxy Tab 3 and most Android
devices.
Brainstorm Multimedia will show
its 3D Importer which is now included
as standard within the Aston 3D range
of graphics creation products, as well
as the Inﬁnity Set.
Broadcast Pix is integrating several
of its products into a 'Sports Bundle'
consisting of the company's Granite
X production switcher, ReVue slomo
and FX3D 3D graphics platform.
Granite X is a 2 M/E switcher with 22
SDI inputs, 12 outputs, seven channels
of ﬁle-based inputs, six key layers,
dual-channel clip server, and access
to cloud-based content. Tools include
customisable multiview and character

generator. Developed in collaboration
with EditShare, ReVue offers variable
speed playback of two or four channels
of video.
ChyronHego
will
demonstrate
the latest version of TRACAB which
identiﬁes the position and speed of
all moving objects within arena-based
sports, in true real-time. The resultant
x/y/z coordinates are supplied 25
times every second for each and every
viewable object (typically player,
referee or ball).

CueScript
prompting
displays

Cinegy will exhibit version 10 of
its multiviewer together with Cinegy
Route and Cinegy Live. Its IP-based
Ethernet video infrastructure allows
customers to cut costs and prepare for
new formats such as 4K.
Cineo's Maverick lighting ﬁxture
is based on the remote phosphor
technology used in the company's
TruColor HS and LS. Intended for ﬁeld
use, it is light in weight, DC powered,
weatherproof and delivers a volume
of light equal to a traditional 1K soft
source.
Clear-Com will display its new LQ
series of devices for linking intercom
and audio systems via LAN, WAN
or IP networks. LQ employs a low
latency codec and can be optimised
for intercom conversation, networked
music performances or audio signals
that need to be transported between
different facilities. Six LQ IP interfaces
can be linked together in any 2-wire or
4-wire combination.
CueScript will show a range of
new broadcast prompting displays
and accessories including the CueiT
software and the CueB external
prompting device. CueScript's CSM
prompter monitors have three-mode
adjustable power input: low (26 watts),
medium (30 watts) and high (38 watts).
LED cue lights come standard with
each prompter.
Dejero's LIVE+ GoBox is a mobile
transmitter for news reporters
and video content contributors.
The company's newest portable
transmitter allows journalists to
broadcast live via bonded cellular, Wi-

Fi and portable satellite connections,
or record up to 40 hours of 1920 x
1080 video for later broadcast.
FileCatalyst will promote its
FileCatalyst Direct suite of client and
server applications. These can quickly
deliver ﬁles of any size or format.
Flanders Scientiﬁc will exhibit the
CM420TD professional LCD monitor.
This is a 42 inch version of the 50
inch CM500TD. Features include 1920
x 1080 resolution, 3G/dual-link/HD/
SD-SDI, DVI-I, and analogue inputs and
passive 3D.
GatesAir will introduce two low
power TV transmitters. The 1RU
Maxiva Ultra-Compact series offers
low-power translator and gap ﬁller
capability for UHF and VHF networks
across four power levels (30, 50, 80
and 130 watts). The Maxiva MultiCompact series comprises highdensity, 4RU 19-inch rack-mounted
UHF and VHF transmitters available
in several conﬁgurations, including
N+1, N+2, or N+1+M+1 redundancy.
The Multi-Compact series has a single
chassis housing up to eight separate
transmitters, transposers or gap ﬁllers.
Grass Valley will show its Stratus
video production system combined
with Ignite Konnect automation to
