2017 ANNUAL MEETING & EXPO PREVIEW
are scheduled Sunday, Oct. 8. Other
events that day include "This Is APTA,"
which provides a review of membership
benefits and resources and a questionand-answer session with member representatives, and the Welcome to Atlanta
Reception open to all conference registrants and their guests.
APTA leaders will take the stage at
the Monday morning Opening General
Session, when Chair Doran J. Barnes,
Vice Chair Nathaniel Ford Sr., Acting
President & CEO Richard White and
invited guests welcome attendees, share
remarks about the future of the industry
and association and officially open the
EXPO floor.
Representatives of U.S. DOT have
been invited to speak at an afternoon
General Session, followed by educational sessions, including presentation
of the AdWheel Grand Awards, lessons
learned from APTA's 2017 international
study mission to Asia, executive leaders discussing the challenge of building
and sustaining their organizations, an
overview of federal legislation by congressional staff members and a procurement panel.
The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid
Transit Authority (MARTA), the host
system for the Annual Meeting & EXPO,
is conducting a host forum, "Georgia
on My Mind," that builds on Atlanta's
deep ties to the transportation industry
when it served as a railroad hub in the
19th century. The creation of MARTA
in the 1960s completed the vision of
providing multimodal accessibility. This
session will examine the past, present
and future of transportation in Georgia,
detail the events that have encouraged
the state to reexamine the value of public transportation from urban and rural
perspectives and explore MARTA's role
in this effort.
The APTA Awards Ceremony and
breakfast kicks off events on Tuesday,
Oct. 10, in a celebration that recognizes the recipients of the Innovation Award, three Outstanding Public
