Kicking off on May 14, the Magnolia Blossom
Festival will celebrate it 32nd year and
on May 15, the 31st year for the World
Championship Steak Cook-Off will begin.

choose not to get a steak or if you just want a snack
during the day, " she says.
The Blossom Festival Pageant will be held at 6:30
p.m. May 11 at The Square Park. Participants ages
birth to 20 are welcome to sign up for the event.
There is a $50 entry fee per contestant, which
includes a Blossom Festival T-shirt. There will be no
admission fee, but those attending are asked to bring
their own chair or blanket. Entry forms can be found
on the festival's website.
The Magnolia Arts Center will host the 70th
Annual Arts Show on May 15 on the Columbia
County Courthouse lawn. In 1950, a local Magnolia
art teacher, Marjorie Chamberlain, wanted the
community to be more aware of art around them. She
began the Sidewalk Art Show to give young people
an opportunity to show their work. The Art Show
was held around the courthouse lawn beneath the
beautiful Magnolia trees.
To celebrate their 70th anniversary, a Youth
Painting Contest will be held, which will be open
to artists Pre-K through 12th Grade. There will be a
cash prize for Best in Show in each grade. For more

Each year, thousands of people make their way to
downtown Magnolia to participate in the Peoples
Bank Treasure Hunt. This year, the prize amount has
changed, Mitchell says.
" This year we are very excited about the treasure
hunt because in the past, the hunt prize was $400,
but this year it will be $1,000, " she says, adding that
clues will announced beginning at 7 a.m. on KZHE,
KVMA, KVMZ-FM 99.1, The Banner News and
Magnolia Reporter, and treasure seekers can find them
on the festival website. Clues will be posted twice
a day - once in the morning and again at the noon
hour.
Another big event happening at the festival
is the Annual Tom Dehoney Memorial Big Bass
Tournament, set to be held May 15 from Safelight
to 2 p.m. at Lake Columbia's North Shore Landing.
Seven hourly prizes will be awarded, plus a grand
prize of $1,000 for the largest bass caught during
the tournament. Entry forms can be found on the
festival's website.
There are several other events happening on Saturday
at the festival, including a parade, a canine fun show, a
5K run/walk Saturday morning, a craft show and sale,
and the car and truck show.
