percent from their 2011 record. EPA
says power plants remain the principal
GHG source, with 1,500 facilities
emitting 2.0 Bmt annually.
Petroleum and natural gas systems
were the second largest stationary
source, EPA says, reporting the sector
was responsible for 231 million metric
tons. Reported emissions for 2015 were
1.6 percent lower than for 2014, but 4.1
percent higher than 2011.
In its subsector analysis, EPA says
onshore petroleum and natural gas
production was 2015's major contributor,
emitting 42 percent of greenhouse gases.
Other significant subsectors were natural
gas processing (25 percent), other
petroleum and natural gas systems (13
percent), and natural gas
transmission/compression (10 percent). ❒

October Crude Output
Drops From 2015 Level
WASHINGTON-Domestic crude oil
production in October decreased 8.0
percent from October 2015, but still was
the third-highest October since 1985, the
American Petroleum Institute says in its
November Monthly Statistical Report.
At an average of 8.6 million barrels a
day, API says October crude output was
up from September's numbers by 0.2
percent. Compared with year-to-date
2015, domestic production declined 6.1
percent.
Natural gas liquids output was down
from September levels, but up from the
prior year and year-to-date, API says.
October NGL production averaged just
above 3.5 MMbbl/d, which was the
highest for the month on record. The
report notes this was a decrease of 3.8
percent from September's output, but
0.9 percent higher than October 2015.
Compared with year-to-date 2015, NGL
production rose 5.5 percent.
According to Baker Hughes Inc., the
number of oil and natural gas rigs in the
United States operating in October
averaged 543, an increase of 6.7 percent
from the previous month, but a 31.4
percent drop from the year-ago level.
API adds the October count was the
fifth consecutive monthly rig increase.
U.S. total petroleum imports in
October averaged 9.7 MMbbl/d, down 2.0
percent from the prior month, but up 10.4
percent from the prior year, the report
says. October's total petroleum imports
were the fourth lowest for the month in 21
years. Year-to-date total imports were up
6.3 percent over 2015 levels, to average
10.0 MMbbl/d, API says.
October crude oil imports were up

8.0 percent compared with the previous
year, to average 7.7 MMbbl/d, API
indicates. Compared with September,
crude imports fell 0.9 percent.
Measured against year-to-date data, the
report says, crude imports were up 7.3
percent. API adds October crude
imports were the fourth-lowest October
imports in 21 years. ❒

Gas Storage Levels
Increase By 82 Bcf
WASHINGTON-Underground
natural gas storage in the United States
stood at 4.045 trillion cubic feet on Nov.
18, 6.3 percent above the five year
average, according to the U.S. Energy
Information Administration. That was
up 82 billion cubic feet from the 3.963
Tcf in storage on Oct. 28, which was
4.6 percent above the five-year average.
The Nov. 18 storage number was 38 Bcf
more than a year ago, when gas storage
stood at 4.007 Tcf.
According to EIA, gas storage in the
East Region was 935 Bcf on Nov. 18,
1.9 percent above the five-year average,
but 5 Bcf less than on Oct. 28, when
storage stood at 940 Bcf, which was 1.8
percent above the five-year average.
East Region gas storage on Nov. 18 was
the same as it was a year ago.
Gas storage in the Midwest Region
stood at 1.153 Tcf on Nov. 18, 6.5
percent above the five-year average and
23 Bcf more than the 1.130 Tcf in
storage on Oct. 28, which was 4.4
percent above the five year average. Nov.
18 gas storage in the Midwest Region
was 27 Bcf more than a year ago.
In the Mountain Region, EIA says,
gas storage was 259 Bcf on Nov. 18,
24.5 percent above the five-year average
and 10 Bcf more than the 249 Bcf
stored on Oct. 28, which was 19.1
percent above the five year average. Gas
storage in the Mountain Region was up
45 Bcf from a year ago.
Gas storage in the Pacific Region was
328 Bcf on Nov. 18, 10.6 percent below
the five-year average, but 2 Bcf more than
the 326 Bcf stored on Oct. 28, which was
10.7 percent below the five-year average.
Pacific Region gas storage on Nov. 18
was down 53 Bcf from a year ago.
In the South-Central Region, gas
storage levels on Nov. 18 were 1.370
Tcf, 11.6 percent above the five-year
average and up 52 Bcf from the 1.318
Tcf in storage on Oct. 28, which was
8.7 percent above the five-year average.
The Nov. 18 gas storage level for the
South-Central Region was up 19 Bcf
from a year ago. ❒
