PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
As autumn begins, it is time for us to come together again to
continue the good work we do as an association, and as individual
lawyers and judges.
Summertime Happenings at the MBA
Rest assured that the work of the MBA continued during the summer months.
In July, the MBA held a successful Get In the Loop Luncheon at Manufacturers
Golf & Country Club and the Summer 1L Diversity Program Closing Reception where
8 participants were matriculated.
The 2017 1L Diversity Program will be remembered as a watershed year. The MBA
has been committed to diversity now for a decade, and our 1L Program is prepared to
take the next step in its development and growth. Beginning in 2018, the MBA will be
taking direct applications for the summer internship program. Under the leadership of
Past President Carolyn Mirabile and Co-Chair Jerry Shoemaker, and past Chair Wendy
Rothstein, the MBA's 1L Program has developed its own unique and strong reputation.
As we enter this new decade of diversity, the MBA will now capitalize on that stellar
and growing reputation.

In August the MBA held a Blood Drive in coordination with the American Red
Cross. During a summer blood shortage, the much-needed donations potentially
helped 42 hospital patients, as well as victims of the recent hurricanes. Also in
August, the Federal Courts Committee held a morning meet and greet for the newly
appointed Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of
Pennsylvania, the Honorable Lawrence F. Stengel, and the new Clerk of Court, Kate
Barkman.

Work on the new Judicial Center continues with committee meetings held
each month. Most recently, the committee reviewed and courtroom plans and
configurations and provided input to the county's design team.. Technology has also
been a leading topic during our summer meetings. Over the next several meetings the
physical connection between the new Justice Center and the existing Courthouse will
