American Oil and Gas Reporter - June 2016 - 99

ConventionSection: Kentucky Oil & Gas Association
the KOGA Board of Directors is scheduled
to meet from 3 to 5 p.m., followed by a
welcome reception from 5 to 7 p.m.
Members dine on their own that
evening, but the association has reserved
tickets on a first-come, first-served basis
for the Cincinnati Reds-Atlanta Braves
baseball game that evening, Royster reports.
Registration and a continental breakfast
are on tap beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday,
July 20. Outgoing KOGA President Rudy
Vogt will get the day's program under
way with opening remarks at 9 a.m.
Royster says he will be followed by representatives from the Kentucky Division
of Air Quality, who will talk about the
impact of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Subpart OOOO regulations and the need for Kentucky operators
to be compliant with the Clean Air Act.
Regulatory compliance also will be addressed by consultant Chuck Venditti,
Royster adds.
"From an operator's standpoint, having
a clear understanding of what is necessary
for compliance is essential. This will help
in that area," he says.
At 10 a.m., Scott Smith with Smith
Management Group will discuss environmental considerations prior to opening
a new oil or gas development site, as
spelled out in the Kentucky Oil and Gas
Regulatory Modernization Act of 2015,
Royster says.
"The act sets out requirements for additional sediment and erosion control
plans in developing new sites," he explains.
"Scott is going to walk through the new
rules and review some of the older rules
to help members understand what they
are dealing with."
At 10:30 a.m., Director Kim Collings
and Assistant Director Marvin Combs of
the Kentucky Division of Oil & Gas are
scheduled to provide an industry update
and discuss the division's work on a
manual for best management practices
for operators, which the general assembly
funded last year, Royster says. At 11 a.m.,
Steven Gardner with ECSI will speak on
environmental management systems.
KOGA has invited Governor Matt
Bevin as keynote speaker at the noon
luncheon, where the association will present the Bob Alley Award, named for
former association President Robert G.
Alley and recognizing someone whose
work has made a major contribution to
KOGA and the Kentucky oil and gas industry, Royster says.

At 2 p.m. Amy Townsend-Small, assistant professor of geology at the University of Cincinnati, will speak on the
impact of hydraulic fracturing on atmospheric methane emissions and groundwater
resources.
Her research, which includes ongoing
work in Ohio, Texas and Colorado, explores sources and fluxes of methane in
a study on whether the transition from
oil and coal to natural gas as an energy
resource will result in increased emissions,
according to a university biography. Some
of her work in Ohio has shown that
methane found in groundwater is naturally
occurring, and that there is no contact
between oil and gas reservoirs and freshwater aquifers, Royster says.
Duran Hall with Maverick Insurance
is scheduled to present a talk at 2:45
p.m. Wednesday, titled "You Don't Know
what You Don't Know when it Comes to
O&G Field Insurance," which will include
a review of casualty, liability and environmental insurance available to KOGA
members under a change in providers
approved two years ago, Royster says.
At 3:45 p.m., Karen Reagor with the
Kentucky NEED (National Energy Education Development) Project and her students will give a presentation on the impacts of energy education.
Royster says the day's activities conclude with an exhibitor reception at 5

p.m. and a KOGA Political Action Committee event tentatively scheduled for
7:30 p.m.
Final Day
Registration and a continental breakfast
at 8 a.m. top the agenda for July 21. At
8:30 a.m., Royster reveals, former Virginia
Oil & Gas Association president and motivational speaker, Greg Kozera, will present "How to Use Teams and Alliances to
Survive in Tough Times."
"Greg always has many positive things
to say with a neat way of saying them, so
I am looking forward to his presentation,"
Royster assures.
At 9 a.m., agents with the Federal
Bureau of Investigation are expected to
give a presentation on cyber security.
Then at 9:30, Royster says, Jeremy Jackson
with the Jackson Group will talk about
alternative approaches to lowering permitting costs.
Following a break, KOGA's annual
"Legal Session" kicks off at 10:15 a.m.
with Karen Greenwell, J. Kevin West,
and Harry Callicotte giving a presentation
on case law related to deducting postproduction expenses from royalty payments.
KOGA's annual meeting concludes
with a talk on natural gas liquids processing by Tracie McCall with Marathon
at 11:15 a.m., Royster says.

Continental Celebrates Meramec STACK Returns
OKLAHOMA CITY-Overpressured
Meramec wells in the STACK (Sooner
Trend of the Anadarko Basin in Canadian
and Kingfisher counties) are delivering
some of Continental Resources Inc.'s
highest returns, the company's president
and chief executive officer praises.
According to the company, its new
STACK completions are the Boden 115-10XH, the Compton 1-2-35XH and
the Blurton 1-7-6XH, all extended lateral
tests targeting the overpressured Meramec
formation in Blaine County, Ok.
"We clearly have another high-impact,
long-term platform for growth underlying
our 155,000 net acres of leasehold in the
STACK," says Jack Stark, Continental's
president and CEO. "The exceptional
performance of these new wells supports
our observation that overpressured STACK
wells produce on average three times
more volume than wells in the normally
pressured STACK in their first 90 days,
when normalized for a 9,800-foot lateral.

This is significant, as almost all of Continental's STACK acreage is in the overpressured window."
The Boden flowed at 1,000 barrels of
oil and 15 million cubic feet of gas in its
24-hour initial production test from a
9,800-foot lateral, the company says,
adding it is Continental's deepest test of
the Meramec reservoir, with the lateral
section positioned at an average vertical
depth of 12,500 feet.
The Compton flowed at an initial 24hour rate of 1,817 bbl and 4.4 MMcf
(2,547 barrels of oil equivalent), from a
9,800-foot lateral, while the Blurton
flowed 1,818 bbl and 4.1 MMcf (2,328
boe) from a same-size lateral, Continental
says.
Based on early production from its
completions and other nonoperated wells
in the overpressured oil window, Continental says it estimates an average ultimate
recovery of 1.7 MMboe per well.
