here's nothing better than
sipping a warm cup of cocoa
at a quaint café after a full day
of skiing. Unless, of course,
you'd rather be strolling the waterfront,
shopping and eating seafood. Whether
you prefer snow to sun or flip-flops to
skis, Destinations magazine asked seven
ABA member destinations to design
two-day itineraries especially for our
tour operators.

Anchorage, Alaska:
Winter Wonders

Alaska's largest city offers a range of
cultural, adventure, and culinary activities,
and serves as a base camp for many classic
Alaska experiences. Winter in Anchorage
is truly memorable, and we've prepared a
two-day itinerary that taps into some of the
city's amazing offerings.
After checking into The Lakefront
Anchorage on day one, we'll head over
to the Anchorage Museum to explore the
city's early beginnings, local art, and Alaska
Native culture. The museum recently
expanded to include a new, permanent
Alaska history gallery, four new art galleries, and more.
We continue with a "flightseeing"
tour with Rust's Flying Service. We'll
take in stunning views of the Chugach
Mountains and fly north of Anchorage
to Knik Glacier, one of the largest in

South-Central Alaska. Then, we'll soar
over Knik River to catch a glimpse of
Alaska's wildlife, such as moose.
Later, we can enjoy stone-fired pizzas
and craft beers at 49th State Brewing Co.
or head over to ORSO for fresh Alaska
seafood. We'll end the night capturing
stunning photos of the northern lights on
the Anchorage Aurora Quest tour with
Alaska Photo Treks.
Day two begins with a trip to the Alaska
Wildlife Conservation Center to see wood
bison and reindeer, among other wildlife.
Next, we'll make our way south to Whittier
for a Lazy Otter Charters Prince William
Sound cruise to see Alaska's massive glaciers and marine wildlife including harbor
seals and sea otters.
Those opting for a hands-on adventure
will ride snowmobiles through the
Alaska backcountry with Salmon Berry
Tours, or head to Alyeska Resort for
some skiing. We'll end the day in luxury
at The Spa at Alyeska for a relaxing massage or facial.
Extend your winter tour with a trip
aboard the Alaska Railroad, or with a
dog-sledding adventure or signature winter
event such as the Fur Rendezvous winter
festival or the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
Make the most of your visit by consulting with Jara Haas at Visit Anchorage,

tour operators.

SUN!

Charleston, South Carolina:
Many Ways to Play

Are you ready to start exploring
Charleston? The fun begins here with this
sample two-day itinerary.
On day one, lace up your best walking
shoes to hear legendary stories with All
About Charleston Tours. Then, walk in
the steps of heroes at Patriots Point Naval
& Maritime Museum, where you will
enjoy lunch aboard the USS Yorktown.
After lunch, travel back in time to the
site where the Civil War began with Fort
Sumter Tours.
Then cap off the day with a delicious
seafood supper at the Noisy Oyster.
Charleston's music scene is more
alive and diverse than ever. Following
supper, hear the music that helps define
Charleston's history-gospel, Gershwin,
jazz, and Civil War songs-with The Sound
of Charleston. Concerts are performed at
the Circular Congregational Church, which
is the oldest continuously worshipping congregation in the South, founded in 1681.
