It comes as no surprise that
Wisconsin is known as the Dairy
State. The business of agriculture is
the backbone of our country, and in
addition to dairy, this part of the state
features orchards, vineyards, brew
houses, and museums that celebrate its
rural history.
Many local farms in Fond du Lac
County have a second, third, or even
a sixth generation of family working
the land. These include entrepreneurs
from the city who wanted a different
way of life for their families and culinary experts who knew that they could
cultivate the rich soil to encourage a
healthier lifestyle with produce.
Bring your group to Fond du Lac
and experience the agricultural
side of life. Groups can choose from
seven tours, including: Sustainability,
Multigenerational Family-Owned,
Hands-On, Products From the
Land, Brewery & Winery Tours,
Edutainment, and Bountiful Harvest
Farm Meals.
At LaClare Family Creamery, your
group will discover a one-of-a-kind
cheese-making facility and dairy goat
farm. Owner Clara Hedrich, a former
teacher, approaches all of her tours
from an educational perspective.
You'll tour the goat barn, see the goats
being milked, and sample their awardwinning goat cheeses, including Evalon,
the 2011 U.S. Championship Cheese
Contest winner. The farm features
"Meet the Producers" farm-to-table
dinners in its café, and a retail shop to
take home your favorite cheeses and
other locally sourced products.
At Meuer Farm, groups can take
a hayride along the trails, see black
walnut groves and maple trees, and
learn about rotational grazing and land
conservation. Groups can shop at the
Busy Bee Country Store & Market
for specialty grains and flours, maple
syrup, and honey.
So slow down. Pet a baby goat. Take a
bite out of a freshly picked apple. Enjoy
a specially prepared, field-to-fork meal.
Sit in awe and silence as another beautiful sunset drapes Lake Winnebago.

Gems of the Hudson Valley
History shines on mansions, museums, and even
maple syrup

N

estled in the heart of the
Hudson Valley, Dutchess
County has been a popular
motorcoach group destination for decades. With its natural scenic
beauty and abundance of historic sites,
Dutchess County will entertain and
educate groups who are looking for an
authentic, memorable experience.
Groups will enjoy a tour of the lifelong
home of the 32nd president of the United
States, Franklin D. Roosevelt. This
Georgian Revival-style mansion in Hyde
Park has hosted dignitaries and royalty
such as Winston Churchill, King George
VI, and Queen Elizabeth II, whose 1939
visit was the first time a reigning British
monarch ever visited American soil. The
estate includes the Rose Garden where
FDR was laid to rest in 1945 after deeding
his beloved home to the American people
as a national park. America's first presidential library, the Franklin D. Roosevelt
Presidential Library and Museum, is also
on the grounds, and Eleanor Roosevelt's
personal retreat, Val-Kill, and the Gilded
Age home of Frederick Vanderbilt are
nearby. After your tour, walk across the
street to Hyde Park Brewing Company
for all-natural beer and cuisine. Check
out this ABA member's menu at www.
hydeparkbrewing.com/menu.
ABA member the Beekman Arms
Delamater Inn in historic Rhinebeck is
one of America's oldest continually operating inns (circa 1766) and the site where
FDR concluded his campaigns for governor and president. Groups can enjoy an
overnight stay and a meal where George
Washington, Alexander Hamilton,
and Benjamin Franklin discussed the
American Revolution. And a visit to the

Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome-a living
history museum that features air shows,
biplane rides, and barnstorming-era
airplanes-is a must.
ABA member The Rhinecliff, an 1854
Victorian inn-turned-boutique hotel,
boasts contemporary décor and is the
ideal spot for a lovely lunch or sunset
dinner with spectacular Hudson River
and Catskill Mountain views.
Treat your group to a distinctive culinary experience. Named one of America's
Top 10 Chocolatiers in 2015 by Dessert
Professional magazine, Oliver Kita takes
you on a sweet journey by pairing wines
with high-quality, fair-trade chocolate
from around the equator.
The state-of-the-art Crown Maple
Estate, built to be the world's largest
sugarhouse, sets the standard for maple
syrup in quality, purity, and taste. From
bark to bottle, this ABA member creates singular, certified-organic maple
products. Groups can take a behindthe-scenes tour to learn firsthand about
Crown Maple's artisanal practices,
hand-bottling, and sugar-making operations, and enjoy a five-stage syrup tasting.
Finally, a must-see destination is the
Walkway Over the Hudson. At 1.28 miles,
this ABA member is the world's longest
elevated pedestrian bridge and stands
212 feet above the majestic Hudson River.
Ambassador-guided tours share the
unique history of the bridge while your
group takes in the spectacular views.
