Soodabeh Esmaili is a senior reservoir engineer at Occidental Petroleum.
She joined Oxy in 2013 and is responsible for numerous aspects of reservoir
management in the San Joaquin Basin,
including conducting surveillance, reservoir engineering and pattern management practices. Previously, Esmaili
served as a graduate research assistant
at West Virginia University, and before
that, was a reservoir engineer at Pars Oil
& Gas Co. She holds a B.S. in chemical
engineering from Shiraz University, an
M.S. in chemical engineering from
Tehran Polytechnic University of Technology, and a Ph.D. in petroleum engineering from West Virginia University.

compare the influence of each parameter
on any given production indicator. As part
of the Marcellus study, Table 1 shows the
comparative impact of 30 parameters-15
native and 15 design-that have been analyzed against the best three and 24 months
of rich gas production.
After completing KPI analyses, a score
ranking the parameters (representing the
influence of each parameter, with a higher score corresponding with more influence) for both three and 24 months of rich
gas production can be processed to analyze
each category's overall impact.
For simplicity, the average of the
scores for all native and design parameters
have been calculated and plotted separately versus production periods of three and
24 months. Figure 6 shows that native parameters are much more important than design parameters early in a well's production. As time passes, the design parameters' influence grows, although the overall impact remains less than native parameters.

The study demonstrates ways in which
different parameters impact shale formation production as evaluated by advance

models, performing data mining and
production analysis, and proposing EOR
techniques. Previously, Kalantari-Dahaghi served as a graduate research assistant at West Virginia University and as
a production engineer at Karun Oil &
Gas Production Co., He holds a B.S. in
petroleum engineering from Petroleum
University of Technology, and an M.S. and
Ph.D. in petroleum and natural gas engineering from West Virginia University.
