Owner: George Mason University Design-Builder: University Hotel Partners, LLC—A Joint Venture between Balfour Beatty Construction and Concord Eastridge Architect: Gensler Engineer: Gensler Specialty Consultants: Aramark, GHT Ltd, Thornton Tomasetti, Christopher Consultants and Schnabel Engineering Specialty Contractors: Encore Construction, Infinity Systems, JCM Associates and JE Richards University Hotel Partners was contracted as a publicprivate partnership to develop, design and build a 135,000-square-foot conference center and hotel facility on George Mason University’s main campus. Providing a high-quality venue for campus and community events, The Mason Inn consists of a 20,000-square-foot technologically advanced conference area integrated with a 149-room hotel. It includes a restaurant, lounge, kitchen, ballroom, junior ballroom, 10 meeting rooms and a fullservice laundry facility. The scope included an additional 35,000 square feet of underground parking and related site work, including a new campus entrance road. Correctional Facilities Merit Award Federal Correctional Institution Berlin, N.H. Owner: Federal Bureau of Prisons Design-Builder: Bell/Heery Joint Venture Architects: Edward Rowse Architects (architect of record) and KMD Architects (associate architect) Engineers: Tetra Tech Rizzo (civil), M/E Engineering, P.C. (M/E/P) and LeMessurier Consultants, Inc. (structural engineer) Specialty Consultants: Bufford Goff & Associates (security), Rolf Jensen & Associates (life safety), Romano Gatland (food service) and Facilities Dynamics (commissioning) The Federal Correctional Institution in Berlin, N.H., is a 678,000-square-foot, 27-building campus that houses medium- and minimum-security prisons. Located on a 700-acre site, it accommodates approximately 1,688 inmates in three four-story general housing units as well as the minimum security prison’s single-story dormitory.
