Nestled in the sloping hillside of UCSF’s Parnassus Campus, the $123 million, 660-foot-long RMB features a serpentine design with four split-level floors and terraced living roofs, sitting on a structural framework 40 feet to 70 feet off the ground. The visually stunning design provides ample linkages to the outdoors and interior spaces organized to encourage interaction and collaboration. The building is expected to receive LEED Gold certification. Design-Build Excellence Award The Osher Building San Francisco Owner: University of California, San Francisco Design-Builder: SKS/Plant, A Joint Venture Architect: KMD Architects Engineer: Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Specialty Consultants: Paesaggio Landscape Architecture, Treadwell & Rollo, Sandis Engineers, KEMA Services, Inc., Charles M. Salter Associates, Inc., Taylor Engineering and O’Mahony & Myer Specialty Contractors: C/S Erectors, Allied Mechanical, Decker Electric, The Engineering Enterprise, DPW, Inc. and Allied Fire Protection The Osher Building project is a great success for the regents of the University of California, San Francisco. After a rigorous request-for-proposal process, the university selected SKS/Plant, A Joint Venture, in association with KMD Architects, to plan, design, construct and finance a 48,000 GSF, five-story medical office building. The completed project not only met the university’s goals, but also exceeded expectations.
