DIRECTOR OF TECHNICAL ACTIVITIES
TECHNICAL ACTIVITIES
Well, DFI's 47th
Annual Conference
on Deep
Foundations is in
the books, and I survived! Much of the
credit for making it through goes to the
outstanding team at DFI, and I owe a
particular group of them much thanks.
So, thank you Carol, Theresa, Angie,
Jaime, Valerie, Ashley, Jess and Karol for
all that you did to make the conference
such a success, and particularly for helping
to make me look good at what I do!
If you were not able to attend the
annual conference this year, you really
missed out on an amazing event. The
energy in our committee meetings was
palpable and many chairs and trustee
liaisons commented on it. It was great
to have a packed room for our Business
Meeting Luncheon, especially during
the screening of our DFI 2022 Technical
Activities: A Year in Review video that
highlighted committee accomplishments
and acknowledged the contributions
of our outgoing, incoming and
continuing committee chairs. Special
thanks to those individuals that agreed
to be interviewed for your generous gift
of time and honest responses! There are
too many of you to list in this space, but
you know who you are.
New Chairs
As I mentioned, the
video announced
new chairs, which
means we have
some introductions
to make. Matthew

Pile Committee. Over the past 10 years,
Iezzoni has been on the organizing
committees for the last three annual
conferences, as well as SuperPile '21 in
her current home of Philadelphia. In her
spare time, she is currently pursuing her
Ph.D. at Villanova University.
Richard Kalson,

stepped up to fill
the vacant chair
position for the
Geo-Industry Risk Working Group.
Kalson provides counsel to subcontractors,
contractors, suppliers and
project owners in litigation and business
consultation matters on all phases of the
construction process throughout the U.S.
With 25 years of construction law
experience and active membership in
The International Association of
Foundation Drilling (ADSC), DFI and Pile
Driving Contractors Association, he is
uniquely qualified to lead this group.
Our last welcome comes with the
announcement that we are combining
the Seepage Control Committee and the
Slurry Wall Committee to form the
Structural Slurry
Wall and Seepage
Control Committee
at the start of 2023.
Meeok Kim, P.E.,

will serve
as co-chairs of the
new committee.
Since completing
her doctorate and

practicing geostructural engineering,
primarily in the Northeast U.S. from
Boston. Ragy brings more than 30 years
of international experience in the
industry, including the ability to speak
three languages at the professional level
or better, to DFI. Kim and Ragy met with
both committees during this year's
annual conference to continue mapping
out how to best organize the combined
